First Hanky Edging - WIP

There is a first for everything. It all began with Fox and Diane's blog posts on beautifully tatted edgings for hankies. I always hesitated to edge anything because it is just a lot of work. But the end product must be worth it.

I started this edging after I went out to buy a few handkerchiefs to edge. Then Diane so generously gave away some beautiful handkerchiefs. I was so happy to receive one which I will post to show you. Thank you Diane.

The edging above is from Susanne Schwenke's Spitzen Ideen book on pp 6. Tatted using 2 shuttles, I used Venus Size 40 threads in Col. 678. I will post it when it is completed.

  2. Ooooh - that edging is beautiful! I think it looks difficult. I'm planning a hanky edge too - I think I'll stick with something fairly simple for my first attempt :)

  3. Very pretty. I like the effect the block tatting gives to the design. Is it for the hanky you got from Diane or for one of those you purchased.

Happy Bluebird, It only looks difficult.

Eliz, This edging is for one of the hankies I purchased.

  5. What a darling and unusual edging! I love it! (*runs off to rummage through her stacks of tatting books*)

I hope I have that book, so I can try tatting this one too.

  8. What a great colour! The design is intriguing - very pretty.

So, you are not a step-by-step, show and tell woman! We have to wait now for the finished work!

  10. Isdihara - did you find the book? I hope you try it. It is a fun pattern to tat.

Sue - I thought the block tatting was quite unique in an edging.

Diane - I can't wait to choose a pattern for your hanky. It should be in my letterbox. I have not checked yet today.

Fox - I hope it can be done in a week's time. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Blu - It's in my purple shades of threads but maybe more accurately orchid pink?
