Weighing In

The last time I weighed Umi and Tsuru was in February 2010. Tsuru was 3.2 kg and Umi was 3.7kg. The reason I weighed them then was because I felt Umi had lost some weight.

Today Umi weighed 5.5kg and Tsuru stepped on the scale and it read 3.4kg.

Tatted Lariat

Remember the tatted edging Drunkard's Path which I was tatting for a necklace. This is it. I made it a lariat with a pendant and a large ring with Delica beads. The polymer clay pendant is a creation of a very talented artist Michelle on Etsy. Her shop is called Woman In Bloom.

Pretty Desserts

Pandan cake with palm sugar, coconut sprinklings, a sliced canned peach and a pansy flower. I was fascinated with the pick because it looked like glass but it was actually a plastic pick. I collected the pick after having the cake. It did look prettier than it tasted.

Mango pudding with diced mango. Sorry for the poor quality photos. It was indoors in a restaurant with dim lighting and I did not want to use the camera flash. People might think I was silly to take photos of everything I put in my mouth. No, I was just silly enough to take photos of these desserts.

Pop-over Collar Motif

Are you wondering about the title. It is the name of the pattern in Lyn Morton's book Tatting Patterns on page 52. But instead of making a collar I decided to go with a square which will be framed. It is tatted in shades of green. You may only see one green on your monitor but the other three are shades of moss green. I posted the motif last week with larger picots here. Done in thread size 40 and it measures about 6 inches square.

Smiling While Tatting

Have you ever smiled while tatting something, just because it was . . .

  • the right thread;
  • the perfect colour;
  • the most appropriate pattern;
  • everything you hoped and wished it could be;

You actually smiled throughout even when you put it down for a few days and picked it up later and you kept on smiling and tatting and smiling. It just felt good.

This is Mary Konior's pattern called Drunkard's Path. The thread is Krystle's HDT 'Vineyard at Dusk' Size 20. I added Delica beads at the joins. The tatting is part of a necklace. I hope to post the necklace soon.

Coconut Ice Cream

This was most delicious. I wish I could have this everyday but I would have to live next to it. It is coconut ice cream served with shavings of young coconut flesh and roasted peanuts in a coconut shell. If you can find all the 3 ingredients, make one for yourself. The combination is heavenly. This comes served with a small cup of chilled coconut water to have after. Very refreshing on a hot day!

Hearts and Flowers

Tatted in Size 40 threads. I was attracted to this pattern by the hearts. Pattern is by Lyn Morton in her book Tatting Patterns on page 100. I did not see the flowers until much later. It looks good in a single colour too, as shown in the book. What colour would you do this in?

My Tatted "Heart's Desire"

This pattern designed by Susan Fuller called Heart's Desire can be found on Georgia Seitz's site here. Many tatters have made this heart in various threads and colours and some have said that this is their favourite heart tatting pattern. It is an interesting pattern to tat. I enjoyed it!

Tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 in Summer Fun (#104). This thread is from the Thread Exchange with Miranda. Two mistakes were made here but it still looks okay with the pretty colours; if you do not look too closely.

Tatted in Altin Basak Size 50 (Col. 3051). This thread was from the thread exchange with Jon. Pastel colours make this heart very sweet.

Tatted in Omega Size 30 (Col. 850). This thread was from the thread exchange with Martha. I like the colours in this variegated thread.

Tatted in Coron Size 40 lilac (106-8A). This lilac matches well with the Omega Col. 850 above.

LB snowflakes 16th,18th & 21st

All three snowflakes are patterns from Lene Bjorn's 24 Snowflakes in Tatting.

16th Day of December
I liked this pattern as it looked in the book but when I tatted it up, the shape formed by the chains did not seem uniform. Tatted in Altin Basak Size 50 white with silver metallic strand (Beyaz 1).

18th Day of December

This pattern is made up of rings and split rings tatted in one round. It was fun tatting this. I just noticed that one of the arm is shorter than the rest. I think it would be easier to tat a new one than to correct that. Tatted in Coron Size 40 red (112-8A).
21st Day of December
This snowflake looks prettier than this photo. Lots of Josephine rings in this one. Tatted in Altin Basak Size 50 white with silver metallic strand (Beyaz 1).

August 2010 Giveaway

These earrings consist of a yellow frill tatted onto a bronze-tone bead cap with a red glass flower and a Delica bead wired through. The colours are bright and cheerful. Just the thing to jazz up a plain outfit or when you feel a need to be more colourful. The earhooks are bronze-tone. The earrings measure appprox. 3cm across and hangs 4cm down including the earhooks.

If you like a chance to win this, just leave a comment here before 25th August 2010.

Work in Progress

Can you guess where this pattern is from? I was testing out the pattern before deciding what I want to do with it. I think I will make the picots smaller than these here. As each motif is tatted and finished with threads cut off, I thought it would be a good opportunity to make it in various shades for joining. The pattern is easy to tat and I think it looks interesting too. If you have tatted this before, I would love to see yours.

Youth Olympic Games Opening Ceremony

This photo is from today's local newspaper. That was my favourite moment of the YOG opening ceremony yesterday evening in Singapore.

The water ripples produced by the runner was beautiful.

On a Sunday morning

These two places of worship are on the same street just 2 doors away. I just love the colours, the hustle and bustle in the morning. We just had breakfast and was strolling along waiting for the shops to open.

I was watching how she folded the petals of the lotus bud.

LLotus flowers in red, pink and white.

Aren't these gorgeous?

Have you ever seen pigeons in a tree like this? Well, you have now.

Lene Bjorn's Snowflakes 5th & 6th

The 5th Day of December pattern from Lene Bjorn's book '24 Snowflakes in Tatting' (page 13). This one is done in Lizbeth 20 in #152 (Christmas Green Mix) and #670 (Victorian Red). This shade of red was not what I had expected but I do like the Christmas Green Mix.

This is the 6th Day of December pattern (page 14). I tatted this in Milford #40 white. Seldom do I use white but I guess snowflakes should be white . . . or not!

Malene bookmark

Malene (pg 25 in Lene Bjorn's Tatted Bookmarks - Cross-shaped) is done in Milford Size 40 thread in white, measuring only 3.5 x 2.5 inches. I misread the pattern and made 4-4 chains when it should be 6-6 chains. no worries, I just continued with 4-4 and hoped for the best. It ended up well. Small and compact. Closing the rings was a little difficult because I tend to tat quite tight. Fortunately the Milford threads are quite strong and sturdy.

Happy Birthday Singapore (LB snowflakes - 8th & 9th)

Singapore has been my home for 27 years, longer than I have lived in the country where I was born. Red and white are the colours of the Singapore flag. So I have tatted these two snowflakes in honour of today. Both patterns are from Lene Bjorn's '24 Snowflakes in Tatting' on pages 16 and 17: The 8th and 9th Day of December.

The first one is done in red (Coats 40, Shade 700). This thread was gifted to me by Gina. Notice the pattern in the negative space.

The second one is done in white (Milford 40).

Both snowflakes were so much fun to tat. I think the design is just ingenious. Do try it if you have not done so. It looks more difficult than it is.

Home

This is one of the national songs usually aired weeks before the national day on 9th August. I rather like this one, probably one of my favourites. It's better with the melody.

. . . . . . This is home truly, where I know I must be,

Where my dreams wait for me, where the river always flow,

This is home surely, as my senses tell me,

This is where I won't be alone, for this is where I know it's home . . . . .

Every year a song is composed for this occasion. This one called 'HOME' was first heard in 1998 sung by Kit Chan and composed by Dick Lee. Catch the video here.

Tatted Butterflies Part 4

More butterflies from Adelheid Dangela's book Tatted Butterflies.

Pattern is called Elise on page 10 of the book. Tatted in Altin Basak thread Size 50 Col. 2328 (red with gold metallic strand). Butterfly measures approx. 2.5 inches across.

This is called Linda found on page 20. Tatted in Coats Floretta Size 20 Col. 4428. It measures about 5.5 inches across. I joined the bottom chain at the wrong location. I cut and tatted that chain again so that it looks more like a butterfly.

I love the green of this thread. It is included in the thread exchange if you are interested.

This one is called Mia on page 31 done in Lizbeth 20 Col. 620 (Medium Azalea). I think it will have a totally different look in white and with crystals incorporated.
