Another Glimpse of the City

I heard from Judy that Martha Stewart featured Singapore in her show aired on 29 Dec 2010 in the US. I managed to catch bits of the video clips on her site. Yes, I agree Singapore is as green and beautiful but it is also hot, humid and crowded with people everywhere. Judy wanted me to post more photos of Singapore. I will try.
Another photo taken from the car while waiting at the traffic lights. The bus with the open top is a sightseeing bus, a popular tourist activity. Sometimes, we need to take time to be a tourist in the city we live in. I have never visited the Singapore Flyer, Resorts World Sentosa or Marina Sands Bay.
The buildings in the background is in the business district, mostly owned by banks and we are waiting for the light to change just in front of the grand old dame, the Raffles Hotel (not in the photo, on the right). The building on the right side of the photo (partial view only) is Raffles City Shopping Centre. Raffles City is located on the site where the original Raffles Institution building used to be. Raffles Institution is a school founded by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1823, the oldest school in Singapore.

Shuttle Exchange with Tatting Marie

Tatting Marie's package arrived just before Christmas. She included a lovely pink Clover shuttle with tatting on it - cluny leaves and holly berries. I fell in love with it. It is so very unique.
With the shuttle she also gifted me with a tatting motif and an angel together with a lovely photo of her christmas tree decked out with her tatting. It is such a pretty tree. I was just amazed at all the angels and the tatted tree skirting.

Marie's tree with her tatted angels and tree skirting.

My mom's tree with Marie's tatted motif and angel.

I forgot to thank Marie for the filament hoops she sent me. I have not used them before so this is just the time to try.

I try to label all the shuttles received from the shuttle exchange and I promised Marie I would show her. This was a little messy and I need to get a smaller tip pen but it will do for now.
Thank you Marie!

I love getting surprises in the mail.

This was a lovely surprise.
Thank you so much.
I appreciate the kind thoughts.

Maltese Rings

First, thank you for all your wonderful comments in my last posts. I had a busy last two weeks and I think Umi and Tsuru missed the usual routine most. I will have to make it up to them, although I must admit I screamed at them this morning as they just would not let me sleep in.
Now for today's post: I did not know how the Maltese Ring was done, well, not until I saw Tatman's video. Thank you for such a great video. I thought I would try this pattern before attempting the Maltese Teapot by Martha Ess. Yes, I did this in early December before the busy period. This bookmark is also one of Martha Ess' called Gloria's Maltese Bookmark. I found out too late that what I tatted did not look like the photo in the pattern. What I did not know was there were 3 different types of Maltese Rings. As you can see above, I only tatted Type #1 but I still do like how it turned out. This is tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 in Carribean (#122) and Dark Purple (#633).

Umi and Tsuru

Tsuru would love to get her teeth into the cupcake pincushion Judy made, but she knows better.
Umi needs to get the scent of everything new in the house.
Little bluebird is keeping Tsuru company.

Beaded Crystal Snowflakes

I made these after Christmas last year so I want to give these to my brothers, sister and mom this year. Maybe I will incorporate them into the gift wrapping. Yes, I think I will do that. I got the wire from the craft shop and they are quite stiff so I had problems bending the ends, and they are quite sharp so it should not be touched by the little one.

Ornaments from Tatted Snowflakes and Beads

These three ornaments are what I made this year. Tatted snowflakes are patterns from Vida Sunderman. I had to alter it a little so that it would fit the neck of the ball ornament. For each, I made two snowflakes and joined them using beads.

Beaded Ornaments

For Mom

For Mom

I made some beaded Christmas ornaments a few years back and gave away a few. I remember I gave one each to my mom, my sister and a few friends. These are what remained that I kept for myself. Earlier this year, mom told me hers broke when her 5 year-old great grand niece visited one day (the girl's great grandmother is my mom's sister). So this Christmas, I thought I would give her the two red ones. The others, I hang them all year round on the arm of my reading lamp.

More Bookmarks

The butterfly pattern is LadyShuttleMaker's called Hope Butterfly.

This bookmark is tatted using the shuttle motif pattern by Tatman.

I think this snowflake is a vintage pattern. I cannot remember which book it came from.

These two flowers are tatted with Swarovski bicone crystals. I did not follow any particular pattern here.

Framed Snowflakes

I got these frames from Ikea and thought the snowflakes would be best displayed like this. Two acryllic panes sandwich the snowflake so it can be viewed from both sides. I photographed them using red and white background. These were tatted earlier which I posted here and here.

Handmade Buttons

I bought these handmade polymer clay buttons from Tessa Ann in July. This set is called Spring Chickity. I bought 2 other sets which have not been used yet. When I do, I will post them. This is also my little niece.

I was contemplating the magnolia (pattern by Nancy Tracy of Be-stitched) or the monkey (pattern fron Dianna Stevens' Animal Bookmarks - A Tatted Zoo) for this T-shirt but decided on the buttons since she is getting other pieces with tatting already.
