Stawasz Collar III

This is my first tatted collar. The pattern is from Jan Stawasz on page 78 of his book 'Tatted Treasures'. I used a Size 20 variegated pink thread and made it about an inch longer than what was stated in the book. It measures about 19 x 1.5 inches / 49 x 4 cm.

I wonder why I used a pink variegated thread instead of a neutral beige, white or black? Didn't put much thought to it at that time.

Did you see Fox's collar in white of the same pattern? You can see the design of the collar much clearer in hers.

  1. This is so pretty! Will you attach it to a dress, or have it be detachable?

  3. I am so surprised by your measurements. I never measured mine - just tried it on to see if it worked and it did perfectly.

It is lovely in the pink tones.
    Fox : )

  4. p.s. isn't it strange that we have yet again tatted the same pattern at the same time, not knowing if each other's choice? : )). Great minds...

  5. Well, your color choice does mean you'll have to think carefully about what blouse you put it on. I think it would look very striking on black.

Good choice to use size 20. Size 10 is just too hard on the hands; I don't know how Mr. Stawasz can use so much of it.

  8. I remember my Mom used to talk about tatting collars when I was a kid. You'll have to show a photo modeling it with a neutral top!

  9. Thank you for all your lovely comments.

    Hi Grace,
I have not decided. It could be sewn in or I could string a ribbon through and make it detachable.

    Thank you, Cornelia.

Fox, No I only measured when it was done. I knew I had to make it longer but during tatting I just did what you did, put it around my neck until I was satisfied with the length. Yes, funny isn't it about tatting the same pattern at the same time. Yes, tatters have great minds.

Hi Miranda and Ladytats, I just wanted to tat it with this thread and never thought of its practical use. I learnt though. Next collar will be a neutral colour.

Thank you Corina, Sue and Diane.

Dear Annie, I will try to get me a model to show you the worn collar.

    Stephanie,
Thank you for your e-mails. Glad you liked the collar and I'm sorry Blogger will not let you leave comments here. Does anyone else have the same problem?

  10. Beautiful! I really can not decide if I like your's (done is such a gorgeous color) or Fox's (so elegantly beautiful in the neutral thread) the best...both are exquisite!

    1. Thank you Julie. I would go with a neutral colour for my next collar.

  11. I would think it would be much easier to use the size 20 thread. I also don't know how Jan uses the size 10 so often, although his work is quite beautiful.

You tatted this very quickly and it looks great in this thread! Using a ribbon would make it easy to wear and remove!

    1. I do prefer tatting with Size 20 too. I would have to try it with a ribbon before finally deciding. Thanks Kathy.
