Snakes

I thought these colourful snakes would be fun for the boys. Pattern is from Dianna Stevens - Animal Bookmarks, A Tatted Zoo.

I did shorten it to fit my blocks and added 2 smaller rings at the tail end R1+1-1-1. Tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 Col. 126 Paint Brush & Col. 184 Rainbow Splash.

What

am I tatting?
By mistake, I made a few more rows of block tatting than required.

Toucan 2 & 3

These two toucans are tatted in Milford and Lizbeth Size 20. The toucans are about 3 inch tall compared to the earlier 5 inch. See the difference.

Pretty Bird

This is the pet bird of the car workshop owner which we visited. Someone rammed the back of AAA's car and he had to get the minor damage fixed. The bird did not sing for me but it did flutter nervously around the cage. Probably did not like me there.

Toucan

The thread is labelled as a size 20 but it seems a lot, lot thicker. This bird is about 5 inches tall. This toucan pattern is by Jane Eborall. It still fits the square so I will use it in the patchwork blanket.

Happy 25th!

It takes only a moment to fall in love,
but a lifetime to prove that it was truly
meant to be forever . . . . .

Happy Anniversary

Crab Version 2

This is tatted in a variegated red thread from Flora Size 20. Bigger than the size 50 one. It is much better in a Size 20 thread. The first time round, I thought it was a lot of tatting for something so small but second time round, I found it a fun tat. Thank you Jane for another fantastic pattern.

Tossing Yu Sheng

Every lunar new year, tossing raw fish with shredded carrots, radish, pomelo etc. is a must. For most people, this is done a couple of times, usually with family, friends and colleagues. Read more about this tradition here.

Parrot

I needed one more parrot to make another pair. This is from Jane Eborall's pattern page. There are some more great patterns here. Do have a look.

This parrot is done in Lizbeth Size 20 in Col. 102 or Western Sunset. The other three are here.

Lion Dance

I had to go to the post office and was passing through the mall when the lion dance was scheduled. I snapped a few photos but did not watch the whole performance as I had to run to the bank before meeting someone for lunch last week.

Penguins Facing Forwards

The earlier penguins were two adults facing sideways and a forwards facing baby. These are all wonderful patterns from Jane Eborall. Love how they look.

Tatted in Milford Size 20 black and white, and Lizbeth Size 20 in Col. 603 ecru.

Can you guess which one is mama bird?

Chameleon Version 2

There would not be such a colour of chameleon in nature but it is a cool, pastel, tatted chameleon. It turned out a little weird unlike the first one, which I was so pleased with. It is just not as handsome as the earlier one. Perhaps it is the thread size. Tatted in Anchor Perle Cotton size 8 in Col. 1335 here.

Yes, it is going onto one of the boy's blanket.

Yellow Cattleya

Golden yellow bloomed just in time for the new year.
Not as striking as the red or purple blooms but still subtly pretty.

Flamingos

This pattern is one of Jane Eborall's. Tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 #132, Tropical Punch. I could not find my black thread in size 20, so I used a size 40 black for its beak.

I am tempted to tat the toucan next. Now I really have to go look for the size 20 black threads. I hate looking for things. A sign telling me not to hoard.

Gladiolus

I remember mom using these for her flower arrangements but she said she also grew them in her garden when we were too young to remember. I got these for my sister for the lunar new year.

Spider

This pattern is by Dianna Stevens. The first one I tatted is here. You need to block the spider legs to make it bend the way you want it.

Swinging Monkeys

Note the difference between the two monkeys?

Onion rings, no onion rings;
Tip for tatting onion rings - tat loosely, very loose otherwise you will have a hard time closing the ring.

Size 20 threads but one is larger;
My art teacher would approve - perspective is good.

Wonky bananas;
Results from not reading the instructions.

Pattern is from Dianna Stevens in her book Animal Bookmarks - A Tatted Zoo.

Chinatown Monkeys

I was in Chinatown shopping and remembered the decorations. I took this photo at the pedestrian crossing. You can hardly see the monkeys from this view although the peach tree is gorgeous with its flowers and fruits.

By the time the light turned green and I was on the other side, rain came pouring down.

Can you now see the monkeys?
How many can you spot?
This is a giant lantern which lights up at night.

Swans

I remember tatting these swans in glitter thread. Yes they are here. I know I kept them somewhere but it is easier to tat them again than to go look for them. They will turn up someday when you are not looking for them.

I am running out of Perle cotton threads in bright colours. These animals look better in brighter colours for the kids. I hesitate to get new Perle cotton threads. I just have to use the Lizbeth instead. Should have started with Lizbeth and used them throughout.

The pattern is found in Animal Bookmarks - A Tatted Zoo by Dianna Stevens.

Bauhinia kockiana

This climber has grown well on the pergola providing a little shade for the benches and vibrant colour among the greenery. Isn't it a lovely picture?

Flying Minor Norwegian Dragons

I wanted to tat this earlier but was scared off by the SSSR (Single shuttle split ring). I finally tried it but gave up and used two shuttles and split rings instead. I think the boys would really love these flying dragons. Too bad I ran out of perle cotton threads in red, otherwise one would definitely be red.

The pattern is by Anne Bruvold. Thank you for a very interesting pattern. It isn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Try it!

Chinese Craft Fair

The lunar new year fair with many artisans from China are here exhibiting their craft - paper cutting, ink brush painting, seal carving, pottery, etc.

Horned Owls

I like this owl pattern from Dianna Stevens in her book Animal Bookmarks - A Tatted Zoo.

Yes, I am still tatting for the blanket. I don't know if I have enough as I have not decided on the placement yet.
