More Tatted Hairpins

I added some beads to these. In the centre is a rhinestone. Tatted in red, Denim Whisper and Purple Dark. I think I need better photos as in these you are not able to distinguish the different coloured beads.

Filet Panel WIP

 

I was amazed with Jane's project of filet crochet and remembered that Mary Konior had a filet pattern in her 'Tatting with Visual Patterns' book. So I had to give it a try. I added an extra row in between the diamonds because I wanted them separated. It is quite slow going for me but I am thrilled with its progress. According to Mary Konior, you can adapt any filet crochet pattern into tatting using this method.

Szechuan Black Noodle

Very spicy but delicious.

Tatted Hairpins

I have damaged one crochet hook tatting these hairpins and they do take time to tat as I have to manoeuvre in between the tiny spaces of the filigree. Also the bead shop does not always have the shape of filigree that I prefer. These are oval in shape and tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 - Raspberry Frappe and Purple Splendour. When I have tatted more of these, I may list them on Etsy.

Stone Pavement

These pavement stones actually look shiny due to all the foot traffic. Look at the various colours. All natural and it makes such a pretty mosaic. On an incline, it may be quite slippery.

Sunburst - Flower Centre

Tension problems here or my side picots are just not large enough. Have you noticed that some flower centres are purple. Just the colour for insects to notice. There are 16 picots to connect to, which means there are 16 petals for me to tat. If it takes me an hour each, this project is another 16 hours to finish or another 5-6 nights of tatting.

Do the corners look strange?

I need to remember that Size 20 threads would be a better choice to edge hand towels.

The threads I used are about Size 30.

It is so much easier to sew in than hankies.

Now this is what it should look like. This is a great pattern to practice the CWJs. I hope I won't forget the next time I need to use it. Tatted in apple green and pink to match the hand towel which this will edge. See earlier post for pattern details.

Bin It?

Instead of throwing it into the bin, re-invent and make it into a hair scrunchie or a lacy collar for Tsuru. Since the colour isn't suitable for Tsuru, a hair scrunchie it is.

Pauline's Angel #2

After posting Pauline's Angel a few days back, I was wondering why the skirt does not look quite right. I went back to the diagram and realized it was not right. So here is Pauline's Angel and how it should look.

Lace with Shell Motifs Edging WIP

 

This pattern is from the 'Tatting from Burda' book. It was an unusual pattern and what caught my attention were the shells. The pattern is tatted in two parts. First, I used Lizbeth Size 40 Purple Splendor for the individual motif. Then I used Lizbeth Size 40 Purple Dark for the second part with the shells. I forgot to do the Catherine Wheel Join. When I realized it, it was too late to correct it. But this is nice too, so I continued. Then after taking the photo, I realised more mistakes. I think this is going into the bin.

My Sister

Happy Birthday to my sister.

She looked more like mom and I looked more like dad. That was what we grew up hearing. For 7 years it was just the two of us. Two girls who played a lot, climbed trees, hop scotched, snuck out to the stream behind our house, cycled round and round our car porch, caught dragonflies and butterflies in the garden, played house, fought to lick the batter off the cake beater. . . . .

We grew up quarrelling most of the time.

New Tatting Book

I recently got this book with some new Lizbeth thread colours. A little difficult to understand but I guess I will get use to it. I am eyeing an edging pattern to tat. You'll see it soon.

Pauline's Angel

 

This little angel pattern is by Victoria Clarke. It came as a kit with threads and beads and the printed pattern from here.  It measures about 1.5 inches across. The beads included were colour coordinated with the threads. I love the kit as it meant I did not have to go looking for the appropriate sized beads. I do enjoy looking for beads and coordinating it with the threads but sometimes it is nice to have it all done for you. I used up the extra size 10 beads for the hanging strand above the angel's head. It could be attached to your purse as a zipper pull, a handbag charm or a mobile phone charm. Thanks so much Vicki.

Churros & Hot Chocolate

It was quite filling that we did not have lunch after. The churros were not sprinkled with sugar as it was meant to be dipped into the hot chocolate. Yes, it was delicious!! It reminded me of eu char koay/youtiao (Chinese Cruellers) dipped in black coffee.

Mail from Canada

 

This lovely scissors keeper arrived yesterday with a note that said the prettiest thing was forgotten. I was puzzled. But I was happy to find that my thread scissors was a perfect fit.

 

Today's package cleared it up. Now I understood. What was in this? Needle keepers, threads, tatted motif and doodads. No prizes for guessing who sent me these? But guess anyway . . . .

Planting Vegetables

 

 

I love to eat this but only certain supermarkets sell it. So after removing the leaves for preparing the soup, I planted the stems in my balcony garden. It is growing long and spindly as it does not get enough sun to grow. It is a climber and if you do not cut it back it will twine around the iron grilles of the balcony. This vegetable is called Malabar Spinach. See the cooked soup here.

Worry Knot

 

 

Have you ever caught yourself fiddling with your pendant constantly? I have. This pendant is perfect for you as the centre stone can be rotated. This pattern is from 'Tatting the Stone' book by Victoria Clarke.

I used a hexagonal cylinder bead of a Botswana Agate, Lizbeth Size 40 Latte Foam (#168) and delica beads size 11. It was easy to tat and you can easily adapt this pattern for any bead size.

Denim Whisper Edging Completed

This scarf was too large for my blocking board so I had to find an alternative way to get this blocked. This scarf I bought was hand tied and dyed with the wrinkling. When I washed it, the colour faded a little and when I ironed it, the wrinkling flattened out. It looked much more interesting with the original tie and dye wrinkling.

All in all I tatted four. The last one is done in Lizbeth Size 80 in #106 Spring Fling. The tails of the charcoal and latte are done in split rings with beads in between and the Size 80 tail is a normal spiral. Which one of these pendants would you wear?

Planting Roots

 

What is it that I want to show you?

It is the plant that decided to grow in the crack of the building and put roots down nearly all the way to the ground. It could be a Ficus. We were at this shop to buy nyonya kueh/cakes. I especially like the ondeh ondeh and kueh dadar from here.

One More Beaded Pendant

 

I reduced the number of beads in this one and added the tail in Victorian sets of 5 half stiches. This was tatted with Lizbeth Size 40 in #156 Juicy Watermelon with Miyuki Delica beads in metallic green and two Swarovski crystals. I need to add tails to the first 2 pendants too and maybe tat another in a smaller size thread.

Pinwheel Tatted Doily 2

 

This one is tatted in Lizbeth size 40 #165 Grape Splash and Venus Size 40 #678 Lilac. This time, I switched the variegated thread and solid thread around. It is a more subtle version than this. I love the shape of this. What do you think?

Beaded Pendant

 

It is called Cathedral Window on pg 13 of this Japanese book - A new approach to Tatting by Yusai Shokonin. I have had this book for sometime now but never attempted any of the patterns until now. I used Lizbeth Size 40 #607 Charcoal medium and #168 Latte Foam.  I did not like how the block tatting shaped up. Perhaps I could have blocked it differently. There were too many beads in the pattern for my liking.

The beads I used are Toho Size 11. There are plenty of pretty colours to choose from, inexpensive but the beads are not as uniform as Miyuki Delica beads.

Occasional Doily Completed

 

The last round is done. See this post on 24 May for details of the pattern and thread used. Not perfect - missed one or two picots and one ring and chain repeat. I hope it is not too noticeable.
