It is very colorful especially against the night sky. An unusual way to light up a Chinese temple but it looks very pretty. I am hoping that I will be able to get more photos during the Lunar New Year when there will be fireworks.
If you love tatted lace, jewellery, plants and anything handcrafted, come back often. I will regularly post items that are made by me, plants that I grow and interesting things that I photograph.

Christmas Cakes
Lemon Poppy Seed Cake with butter icing and Christmas cookies. My sister made the cake and her daughter did the decorating. This was eaten on Christmas Day.
This was the cake we had on Christmas eve.
Again decorated by my niece.

Tatted in Altin Basak Size 50 in Col. 328 and Delica beads in DB22L.

Eileen
This is another snowflake pattern by Jennifer Williams. Just like Lynn, you need a 15mm ring. You start by tatting over it and continue with Round 2. You can do a split chain and continue to Round 3 without cutting your threads.
The first snowflake I tatted was in Altin Basak Size 50 Siyam 1 (black with silver threads). I forgot to make the centre picot larger than the two side ones and when I remembered to do it in the second snowflake, I realised it made it look so much better.
The second snowflake was done in Altin Basak Size 50 in 2351 (gold with gold threads). The larger picot in the centre made the arms looked longer.

Lynn
This Jennifer Williams pattern from Tatted Snowflakes uses a ring in the centre which is tatted over. I used a 15mm closed ring for Lizbeth Size 20 thread Col. 152 Christmas Green. For the Lizbeth Size 40 thread Col. 147 Red Burst, I used a 12mm ring.
These could be hung on the tree as I made a loop for it. I tatted them in Christmas colours not for my tree (I do not have one) but maybe to include in a card or for someone elses' tree.
I know I started tatting these snowflakes a little late but no matter, I can still include them as part of the gift wrapping.
Happy Carolling for Christmas eve.

Mall Christmas Tree
This seems to be a popular Christmas tree design this year. This one looks quite pretty at one of our local malls. I hate shopping at the stores this time of the year as it is extra crowded during this holiday time. I did do most of my Christmas shopping online this year. Have not even seen the Christmas street lights on Orchard Road yet. Maybe after Christmas.

Another snowflake pattern from Jennifer Williams. I thought the swirl effect in this pattern made it look a little different. I really like it.
Top is tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 in Green Ice Col. 187. But the swirl is more obvious in the lower motif tatted in Lizbeth Twirlz Size 20 in Midnight Mist Col. 407.
The first few rings were a little confusing as you really needed the diagram to see where to join the picots to but once you got the first repeat down, the other 5 were easy.
Yes, that was fun!

Lacy Doily Completed
I finally finished this doily. This will probably be the last large project for 2016. The 2nd last round seemed to take a long time to tat. I had a fun time blocking this.
I must say that I do not like this colour. Somehow this peach has a tinge of grey in it. It might not be noticeable in this photo. This is Lizbeth Size 40 Col. 630 Peach Light.

Post from Overseas
A lovely greeting card came in the post yesterday from UK.
Definitely for the cat and dog lover.
What a cosy scene by the fire
Also wrapped inside - a beautiful commemorative shuttle for the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Thank you Margaret for the thoughtful greetings and gift.
It will be a very special shuttle in my collection.
I just love the colours of this shuttle and
that it is hand painted.
Thank you so much. I will treasure it.

Catrin v2 & 3
Before |
Afer weaving but before blocking |
Two more versions of Catrin here. I thought I would show you how Catrin looks before weaving. Look how different it looks before and after. I think it needs another round of blocking.
Top is tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 in Azalea Medium Col. 620 and Coral Orange Medium Col. 702.
Bottom snowflake is tatted in Lizbeth Twirlz Size 20 Blaze Col. 409.

Catrin
This pattern is from Jennifer Williams' Tatted Snowflakes. I like this. Easy and fast to tat and it looks fantastic. Done in two separate rounds, then woven together. I used Lizbeth Size 40 Ocean Turquoise Dark Col. 657 and Ocean Sunset Col. 155. Using different colours you can mix and match to create a variety of snowflakes.

Pretty Rocks
It was a day that I had to visit the hairdresser. I do that about 3-4 times a year. After sitting for 2.5 hours, I had to do some shopping. I went browsing and bought these.
Rough stones set in brass and plated in rose gold. A ring with rose quartz and amethyst and another rose quartz nugget I could not resist.
I thought wearing them together looked interesting. But not when tatting, though.

Lacy Doily WIP
I had to stretch the rings on the second round so that it would lay flat as it was cupping. It still is, slightly. Finished the third round and 4 more to go. Tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 in Peach Light Col 630.
After tatting the cobweb doily, I knew I wanted to do another pattern from the same book.

Choose Me?
We were at our local supermarket
and noticed this.
Was it the flow of the water?
Were they schooling in a confined space?
Or they were just trying to confuse the humans?
Don't choose me!!

Cobweb Doily
I love this. I wonder why it did not catch my eye earlier. Tatted in Venus Size 40 in Col. 486. The pattern is from Tatting Doilies and Edgings edited by Rita Weiss. It measures about 4 inches across and tatted in 4 rounds.
I might tat this again in a different colour.

Flowering Cordyline
While on the bus, I noticed that the Cordyline plants were flowering and I had not seen that before. The flowers looked delicate. I wanted to take photos but it was impossible from a moving bus.
When I reached the bus interchange, there were some plants there, so I whipped out my phone and you get to see it too.

Carnival (MK#71)
This is the pattern on the cover of Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior. One motif isn't enough. I think more would be visually more interesting.
This is tatted in Lizbeth size 40 in River Blue Medium Col. 708. It measures about 2.5 inches across.
Friday, 25 November 2016
Patchwork (MK#70)
This is four motifs joined together. Makes a nice square. Measuring 4 inches across in Lizbeth Size 40 thread Seacrest Green Col. 714. I love this shade of green.
Patchwork is a very pretty pattern by Mary Konior in her book Tatting with Visual Patterns.

Flower Patch (MK#69)
I have not tatted a Mary Konior pattern in ages. I was browsing through her book Tatting with Visual Patterns, trying to find a pattern that appealed to me, which I have not tried. I chose this one.
Tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 Harvest Orange Medium Col. 694 and Twirlz Monarch Col. 406.

TF #13
One more small motif from The Tatting Artistry of Teiko Fujita. This has large rings and I found it quite a unique looking pattern. Tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 in Col. 623 Raspberry Pink.

My Fluttering Heart
Another Teri Dusenbury pattern from her Tatting Hearts book. This pattern is labelled for intermediate skill level, mainly because of the split ring outer border with the half daisy. A little fiddly but I think the heart is pretty.
Tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 in three colours: Lollipop Col. 135, Peach Light Col. 635 and Green Ice Col. 187.
I am becoming a fan of Green Ice, such a lovely soothing colour.

Shopping Spree
Recently, I went on a make-up buying spree. This arrived last week.
Budget for tatting supplies used up. No more new threads or shuttles or pattern books until next year. That is, unless I crumble and need inspiration. One tatting pattern book on the top of my list is the book by Tattingweed.
Patience!

TF #10
Pattern 10 from The Tatted Artistry of Teiko Fujita on page 11. I used Venus Size 40 threads in peach 103, yellow 541 and lilac 679. All pastels, nothing too striking.
It is a unique diamond shape created by the outer most chain.
I can only manage small motifs at this time. Still busy online shopping for Christmas gifts. I think my Christmas shopping will be done soon.

Heart Frame #2
This looks more like it.
Lately, I have been making silly mistakes and having to tat the motif the second time to get it right.
But I do love how this turned out.
Tatted in Venus Size 40 in Col. 673.
Heart frame 1 and 2 together.
This is how it looks, entwined?
Well you could entwine it before ending the second heart frame.

Lovely Dream
In my dream,
I am prancing,
no, sprinting,
no, leaping,
yes, dashing
across
the field,
no, park,
no, jungle stream,
no, lallang,
yes,
the living room,
to my,
Mr G,
no, Garfield,
no, handsome tabby,
no, my
treats.
Now,
I am
happy!
in my lovely dream.

Heart Frame
This heart looks lop-sided.
I am afraid it is.
I missed tatting a few rings.
Oh well!!
This is from Tatting Hearts by Teri Dusenbury.
Tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 Red Burst Col. 147.

Little Flower Buds
In Emiko Kitao's book, there is a pattern for this flower bud. I decided to try it out using this tiny white thread Size 150 and then compare it to a Size 20 thread.
It is tiny, measuring only 6 and 10mm respectively. I am sorry, I could hardly see where to join the picots to. My eyesight isn't what it use to be.
But it was a nice exercise. Thank you C.

More Spring Onion Motifs
The top was tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 Azalea Medium Col. 620 and Coral Orange Medium Col. 702.
The bottom was tatted in Azalea Medium Col. 620 and Light Raspberry Pink Col. 623.
Now it looks prettier but still not as pretty as the original by Tattingweed. I did not do the onion rings. Not by mistake but by choice. I am not a fan of tatting onion rings.

Tattingweed's Spring Onion Ring Doily Motif
This did not turn out right. The black and yellow one has only 5 repeats instead of 6 because I underestimated how much thread was needed. Tatted in Milford Size 20 Sunshine and Black.
The second attempt did not turn out as expected as the small thrown rings should be joined to the same picot. Also the variegated thread did not work. Tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 in Coral Orange Medium Col. 702 and Rainbow Splash Col. 184.
I think I will try again using 2 solid colour threads because I love the pattern. This is the link to the pattern. If you like more of Tattingweed's patterns, consider getting her book here at Handy Hands or here at Lacis.

TF #30
Does it look strange?
I used the Lizbeth Twirlz Size 20 Col. 405 Bumble Bee
It looks pretty busy, like a bumble bee!
The thread does not show the pattern up well. So when you decide to use the Twirlz thread, choose carefully.
Pattern is found in The Tatted Artistry of Teiko Fujito on page 28 and 29.
Tatted in three rounds.

TF #41
I was too impatient to start this pattern. I did not study the pattern thoroughly and had to stop here.
After starting a second time, this is what it should look like.
The darker 'stars' should have been tatted first and then joined to the centre.
I think the shape of this motif is visually very appealing.
Pattern is from The Tatted Artistry of Teiko Fujito.
Tatted in Flora Size 20 in #208 and #234.
