Chain Reaction (MK#33)

This was tatted in Lizbeth thread Size 40 in Carousel. Just like Drunkard's Path, this pattern is done in chains only. I only tatted a short length to see how it would look. I think a solid colour thread may have been a better choice to showcase the design.

Black Eyed Susan (MK#32)

I tatted the red black eyed susan first but found out too late that I joined the second row of tatting incorrectly and you can see that it is slightly skewed. So I decided to try again. This time is it joined correctly. So I have two black eyed susans.

I love the black eyed susan flower too. Very pretty if planted in groups and when they are in bloom.

This pattern is probably from Mary Konior's library book which I have returned to the library. I wish I could have kept it for myself.
Just double checked my notes. This pattern is from 'A Pattern Book of Tatting' by Mary Konior on pg 36.

One Snowball (MK#31)

One Snowball could become 7 or more. This one was on the back cover of 'Tatting Patterns' by Mary Konior (pattern on pg 57). I found it quite difficult to get all the 'onion rings' looking similar but when they are joined up, they look so pretty on the book cover. I am determined to tat more. I will probably do this first before I endeavour to continue with Spinning Wheels or Pear & Apple.

Embryo (MK#30)

This is an interesting pattern found in Mary Konior's book 'Tatting Patterns' on pg 26. Tatted in LadyShuttleMaker's HDT called Mojo. I am slowly bringing out my precious HDTs to tat with. You should see more of them in future.

March 2010 Giveaway

Congratulations to
Edna!
There were 13 comments / entries. Thank you for participating. Watch out for next month's giveaway. Edna, please send me an e-mail to claim your earrings.
I have been using the random number generator since the start of 2010. Umi and Tsuru are no longer cooperative in helping me choose giveaway winners. Oh well, it was good while it lasted. . . .

Rosette and Ring (MK#29)

Rosette and ring is a pattern found in Mary Konior's book 'A Pattern Book of Tatting' on pg 69. The thread used is DMC Perle Cotton size 12 in colour #356. As you can see, I did not standardize the thread gaps; I wish I had.

Sweethearts bookmark (MK#28)

I found that the size of the hearts were not quite uniform probably due to the chain tension. I should be more careful next time and again the picot forming the centre of each heart should be made smaller. This was tatted in Lizbeth thread Size 40 in Carousel. What can I do with the top of the bookmark. It's hanging and looks unfinished.

Pot Pourri (MK#27)

Tatted in one of my favourite Lizbeth threads that is Springtime size 40. Pot Pourri is found in 'A Pattern Book of Tatting' on pg 81. Another pretty pattern. What is your favourite Lizbeth thread colour?

March 2010 Giveaway

This month's giveaway is a pair of earrings made by me. I used a pair of orang asli clay bead in cherry pink with a maroon squiggle. These beads were handmade by the Lun Bawang, an indigenous minority of Sarawak in East Malaysia. The colour of the shell drops is a light baby pink but the colour does not appear so here. Ear hooks and findings are bronze-toned. The earrings measure approx. 5.2cm / 2.1inch including ear hook.

Just leave a comment by 23 March 2010 and your name will be put into a draw to win this.

No Nay Never (MK#26)

This pattern says it all, especially when you can't seem to bring yourself to say no. Another one of Mary Konior's pattern which you can join up to a larger piece of tatting. No I am not going to. I still have the Spinning Wheels motif to continue with. This one is done in DMC Perle Cotton size 12 in noir (#310). Pattern is found in 'A Pattern Book of Tatting' on pg 60.

Pear and apple (MK#25)

This pattern is called pear and apple. A motif which could be joined up to form a larger piece. I tat one first and then decide if I like the pattern enough to continue. It looks very different when joined up as shown in the book. That could be reason enough to continue tatting more pieces for joining. It will go to my 'To Tat' list. This was done in Lizbeth thread #20 in col. 102/Western Sunset.

Queen Anne's Lace (MK#24)

This looks very lacy just like the flower. The plant does not grow here but I love how the flowers look. This pattern is so appropriately named, don't you think? This is tatted in DMC Perle Cotton 8 in Ecru.

Tsuru loves her red box

Tsuru has always loved sleeping in cardboard boxes. The smaller, the cosier. I was clearing some storage boxes and she got comfortable as I left this one to dry after cleaning it. It has now become hers. Not even Umi dares to put a paw in. Tsuru spends many, many, many hours sleeping in it.

Wednesday 10 March 2010

Drunkard's Path (MK#23)

This pattern consists of only chains. The picots in this should have been made smaller to better show off the curves. Instead this Drunkard's path looks rather boxy. Noted this down, in case I decide to tat this again. I used a cotton perle 12 thread.

Umi by the window bird watching

Umi loves looking out the window. However she forgets that she can do this because of the curtain. She is normally brought to the window by birds. The birds tend to perch and have conferences among themselves. When this happens, she will push the curtain aside and look out. The light makes her look so pretty so I took the opportunity to take some photos of her.

Monday 8 March 2010

Butterfly (MK#22)

This colourful butterly is based on Mary Konior's pattern on page 64 of her 'Tatting Patterns' book . There should be 4 gradating picots on the top but I miscounted and ended with three. My gradating picots are a little exagerated but I think it works here. Thread used is Anchor Pearl Cotton 8 in Col. 1375.

PTG quilt block completed

Well, we could embellish on more but I think it is done. The Chinese character is 'shou' which means longevity. Four different pieces of tatting, all Mary Konior's patterns. Stitched the dragonfly in gold threads; Added a beaded star, a beaded rose and leaves, silk ribbon irises, more beads with sequins, milky white flower glass beads, green metal roses, a Chinese button, silk trim of black flowers, green ribbon buds and small yellow rhinestones.
Georgia should be receiving this soon in the post.

Thursday 4 March 2010

Blackberries (MK#21)

I was looking for a pattern which I could use for a purse strap. Tatted the maroon one first and the variegated purple next with crystal pearls. It could also work as a lacy cuff or bracelet.

Tuesday 2 March 2010

Iluma Singapore

This is a relatively new building opposite the National Library. It looks like another shopping mall. I suppose it would look different at night when it is all lighted up. Have not been there in the night. The cityscape changes rapidly and I seem to see something new each time I am there. I suppose I do live in the countryside.

Monday 1 March 2010

Wild Rose (MK#20) and Hen & Chick (MK#21)

These two patterns are from Mary Konior. Top one is called wild rose (MK#20) tatted in Flora cotton thread size 20 in pink (#211). I also tatted a black edging called hen and chick (MK#21) in DMC Perle Cotton size 12. Both will be added to the quilt block.
