Trellis (MK#44)

I used thread Size 40 for this pattern but I wished I had used Size 20 instead. The twisted chains or as Mary Konior called it the 'Victorian sets' did not turn out as hers did. This pattern is in her book 'Tatting in Lace' on pg 63. This was tatted for a friend in her favourite colour.

Maids of Honour (MK#43)

This is only row 1 of this pattern. I did not do row 2 because I liked the scalloped inner edge (which would be straightened out with Row 2) for this frame. This was tatted in Flora size 20 in colour #222. Maids of Honour is a pattern by Mary Konior found in her book 'Tatting with Visual Patterns' on pg 41. I tatted this for a friend who was feeling under the weather. Hope she is feeling better!!

Coaster in Purple Splendour

This is the coaster I tatted for Sewmuchfun4 of Niftyneedle who won the International Tatting Day 2010 giveaway. This was tatted using Lizbeth's Purple Splendour (Size 40). I hope it has arrived.

Celandine (MK#42)

This is another edging with corners from Mary Konior. This pattern is found in her book 'Tatting Patterns' on pg 11. The flowers are tatted first before starting the edging so I decided to tat them in a different colour.

Stained glass lampshade

For Part II of the intermediate stained glass class involved making a four panel lampshade. While choosing a pattern, we wowed about the 6 panel lampshade. Not advisable for a first time project.

Glass of all four sides of the lampshade all cut and sides smoothened.

The crown (left) was optional but it just topped the lampshade beautifully. We were asked to decide on the crown after we had soldered together the four panels. Well, we all wanted the crowns.

This is before the patina was applied. Did you notice the slightly crooked crown?

Somehow, I prefer the solder to be flat which is what it should be on the underside but not the front. It should be rounded/beaded on the front.

The stand is just for the photograph. This lamp stand is a little too small for this lampshade. I ordered a slightly taller one and it will be shipped in soon. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and the result was most rewarding. The next class will be the leading class which is still tentatively scheduled. I hope I get to attend that class.

Asters (MK#41)

This pattern called Asters is an edging with corners by Mary Konior in her book 'Tatting with Visual Patterns' on pg 28. I made it into a frame which could be used as is or sewn in. I tatted this for Annie as part of the exchange. Thread used is Milford Mercer size 40 in royal blue.

Josephine (MK#40)

This is an edging called Josephine from Tatting Patterns by Mary Konior on pg 16. I tatted this for a friend. The thread here is a HDT by LadyShuttleMaker named Plum Tickled. Quite a pretty pattern. You know I love Josephine rings/knots. I have to tat any pattern with JKs.

Olive-back Sunbird

The sunbirds are back this year. They started the nest a little earlier. It looks a lot sturdier than last year's nest. I mentioned we lost one chick last year. Well, this year the birds took materials from the last nest to build a new one and some yellow feathers peaked through. I guess the missing chick died in there last year. Survival of the fittest.

Big daddy, the male has a darker throat.

Big mommy does all the feeding while big daddy chirps to call out to the chick for feeding or to warn of danger lurking i.e. Umi and Tsuru.

Chicks on day of hatching.

Feeding time.Again only one chick survived. The other is probably still in the nest.

Chick is growing fast. Yellow feathers at the throat.

I see Big Daddy calling out to the chick urging it to fly out. He entices it with food in his mouth but he does not go to the nest. He lingers nearby. Is the chick ready to fly the coup?

Just about!!

Small cross

I know I have already posted this pattern but this particular small cross is tatted for someone I met on Easter Sunday. A sweet dear man who just celebrated his 80th birthday last month. This is tatted in Lizbeth #656 (dark wedgewood) size 40. I think this colour would be appropriate.

Exchange with Annie

I fell in love with Annie's cross-stitched altoid tins and wrote her to ask if she would like to do an exchange with me. Annie kindly agreed. I tatted some small pieces of lace for her and sent it off. She made this beautiful altoid tin for me and coincidently, we posted our packages on the same day. I just wanted to share with you her beautiful work. Annie explained that she used a single strand of floss over one thread so that she could get all that detail into the space of 3.5 x 2.5 inches.

All those tiny stitches to create this beautiful scene.

Annie included a tiny pair of scissors which I am so grateful for. I could also use the tin to carry my shuttles. I could fit 3 shuttles in here. Really handy when travelling. As it is padded with felt on the inside cover, it does not rattle at all.
P/S I had to show you how 3 shuttles fit in here with the scissors.

Ring A Ring O' Roses (MK#39)

This is probably one of those patterns which look better if tatted in a solid colour thread. It would show off the pattern better. The pattern is found in Mary Konior's 'Tatting with Visual Patterns' on pg 96. I used Milford Mercer Size 40. I went a little crazy at Spotlight and bought several colours of Milford Mercer Size 40 threads. I think I enjoy shopping for supplies just as much as I enjoy tatting.

Stained Glass Intermediate Class

It has been more than a year since I attended the beginners stained glass class. This is my second class - the 3-D Intermediate class. The result of Part 1 of the class is a box. I chose this Poinsettia flower pattern because I wanted red glass in my box. This took nearly 9 hours to make. I found soldering to join the glass into a 3-D structure most difficult. Next week's class involves putting a small lampshade together.

Glass cut and copper foiled.

Top lid and sides soldered, bottom piece cut.

Box soldered and tube-hinged.

Patina applied and finished.

Small cross (MK#38)

I wanted to compare the size of the crosses. One is done in Ecru Size 10 and the other is done in Ecru Size 60. It did not take much time to tat. The shape of the cross reminds me of a cross I wore a long time ago. I think I still have it, somewhere.

Triad (MK#37)

This is Yarnplayer's HDT called Nicobar Pigeon Size 30. The colours are so vibrant. The pattern looks like a heart but it is called Triad by Mary Konior in her book 'Tatting Patterns' on pg 76. I suppose it could also be repeated and become a doily.

Oats and Barley (MK#36)

This pattern is found on pg 39 from 'A Pattern Book of Tatting' and tatted in Lizbeth 20 Western Sunset. I had some threads left after tatting 'Pear and Apple' so I decided to use the remaining shuttle thread for this; which are all rings.

Easter Eggs Part II

Left egg is Easter Egg No. 12. The edge is made by crocheting a slip stitch in each picot. Middle egg is Easter Egg No. 24. This one is tatted in 3 parts. Right egg is Easter Egg No. 13. Used Cotton Perle Size 8 for all three eggs.

Happy Easter 2010

Tatted Easter eggs from Kirsten Wind Hansen's patterns. I received the book just in time.

Left egg is Easter Egg No. 2 tatted in LadyShuttleMaker's HDT named Easter Egg Size 20. I needed to tat this because of the Josephine rings;

Middle egg is Easter Egg No. 5 tatted in Anchor Perle Cotton Size 8. Quite happy with the colour combination and the design is simple but very pretty;

Right egg is Easter Egg No. 15 tatted in Flora Size 20. The butterfly caught my eye and decided to tat these in sweet colours. I forgot to join some picots but it's okay!

Star (MK#35)

This Star is tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 Tropical Fruit. The pattern was fun to tat and the thread colorway turned out quite pretty. This pattern is found in 'Tatting Patterns' on pg 75. The colour reminds me of a watermelon.

International Tatting Day (MK#34)

This is called Coasters by Mary Konior. It is an example of irregular, random or free tatting. I call it 'crazy tatting'. Each piece will never look the same as there is no set number of stitches to follow once the centre two flowers are done.

To celebrate International Tatting Day 2010, I am offering to one lucky person, a piece of tatted lace. It will look 'similar' to this and I will tat it in your colour choice. All you have to do to enter is make a comment here with your colour choice before 7 April 2010. I will pick one winner using the random number generator.
