Wedding Anniversary Gift
This patchwork 'Trip Around the World' king size quilt cover was made for my parents. It was to celebrate their 25th silver wedding anniversary, many many years ago.
The patchwork was sewn by hand as I did not have a sewing machine then. After the patchwork was done, I had to borrow my then future mother-in-law's sewing machine to sew it up into a quilt cover. The last time I was at mom's, I made it a point to photograph it. Mom had stored it instead of using it, hence the crumpling. I laid it out in the sitting room and took a photo from the stairs.

What a lovely quilt! I am amazed that you pieced it by hand. I'm sure it is a real treasure for your parents.
ReplyDeleteThat is very pretty. I can imagine all the work that you put in to do it by hand.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that she cherishes it so much to keep it safe, yet wouldn't it be nice to see it being used?
What a beautiful quilt! You do lovely work.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very beautiful quilt, and well done on sewing it, she has kept it very well as it looks in wonderful condition

So glad you got a photo of this beautiful quilt! When I read that you hand-pieced it, I got kind of lightheaded! An amazing amount of work! A quilt instructor of mine in 1988 had us hand-piece a small wall hanging, and I realized that hand-piecing wasn't for me! (I do like to hand quilt, but, of course, that is also labor-intensive!) It certainly seems to be in pristeen condition! I do understand why your mother chose to store it away!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure! You pieced the quilt perfectly and you tat your stitches with such even tension. You are indeed talented. Thanks for showing us. Karen in OR
