In the Mail . . .

I received the shuttles and the 'Aunt Ellen's Treasury Tatting Patterns' book in the mail days ago. This is what resulted.

Thank you for the lovely shuttles, C.

Here tatted in Lizbeth size 20 threads is the Daisy Heart. I might try it again in one colour. We will see. Tatting is a little slow these days.

Beef Ball Noodles

We love these noodles.
The soup is clear and tasty.
It may look bland but it it is one of our favourites.
However, ordering these noodles isn't a breeze.
The queue can be long,
as with most of the good hawker food here.

Floral Bouquet Doily WIP 3

This large round is almost half complete. I think this round is what makes this doily so pretty. The chains are turning all over the place but the blocking will work wonders here.

Camouflage Fabric

I did not realize how this fabric was created. I just thought it was a nice unique camouflage design when I bought it. Only when I looked at it closely and held it up in the light that I realized that parts of the denim fabric have been stripped to the underlining threads and it was almost see thru' like a lace fabric.

Peacock

This peacock pattern is from the Occhi book by Langwieser and Scharowa. I did a lot of unpicking on this one and it took longer than expected. Some tips if you are thinking of tatting this. Follow the diagram and refer to written instructions only for the stitch count. The photo of the tatting in the book did not correspond closely with the diagram.

Also, the stitch count of the 3rd round of the onion rings should be 4 ds between picots instead of 3.

Tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 threads in Ocean Turquoise Dark (#657) and Country Side (#117).

Markisa

This is the flower of the passion fruit. I remember my uncle who made us the markisa drink from his homegrown fruits when we visited him. Some childhood memories are so vivid.

What a beautiful flower!

Floral Bouquet Doily WIP 2

Row 12 completed. I only managed a few rows since the last post. A few more to go but one of them is a huge one - multiples of the centre motif. It will be a while more until it is done. Currently unblocked and some of the chains are folded.

What do we have in common?

AAA came home one day and announced he met this guy at the River Safari. I haven't had a chance to meet him yet.

But I see this fur ball everyday. See the resemblance?
What more, both love to chomp on bamboo leaves.

Pattern Inspiration

Inspiration for a new pattern?
It could be.
A photo of a tiled ceiling.
I cannot remember where I took this photo.

Coaster #8 (MK#68)

The last coaster is edged with another pattern from Mary Konior  called Snake Chain. Tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 thread in Confetti / Col. 105. This was quick and easy.

Padparadscha Colours

This is a show winning orchid but unfortunately, I did not catch its name. I love the colour as it reminded me of sunset colours and the colour of a Sri Lankan gemstone called padparadscha.

Floral Bouquet Doily WIP

I started over and Row 7 is complete, but not without mistakes in the earlier rows. I was tempted to start yet again but I may not have enough thread. This will have to do. It looks very delicate and that was why I wanted to tat this. This lovely pattern is by Tomoko Morimoto from her book 'New Tatting'.

Hairy Crab Season

It's a seasonal delicacy from China.
This is how its sold in the supermarket.
The best crabs come from Yangcheng Lake near Suzhou.

Steamed and enjoyed in many restaurants
this time of the year.

Coaster #7 Camomile (MK#67)

This edging is Mary Konior's Camomile in her book Tatting Patterns. I have used Lizbeth Size 20 thread in Tropical Punch #132. This second set of four coasters does not seem to be exactly square.

A New Morimoto Doily WIP1

The pattern is called a Floral Bouquet Doily. I dug out my Size 60 (20g ball) thread to tat this beautiful doily by Tomoko Morimoto. I wanted the same lacy effect as in the photo but did not have enough thread in a Size 80 10g ball to do in one colour. The doily in the book is tatted in Size 80 and needed about 300m of thread which resulted in a 14.5 inch doily.

After tatting two rounds, I realised I made a mistake in round 1. Will have to start over again.

Floating Baby

A sculpture at Gardens by the Bay called Planet by artist Marc Quinn. More about it here.

Another sculpture of Marc Quinn's can be spotted in front of Ion Orchard. That one is called Sphinx (Fortuna).

Under An African Sky Doilies Completed

Doily #1 with 3 different backgrounds

Doily #2 in different backgrounds

I was eager to see the results and now that it is finally done, I am a little sad. Tatted in a mixture of Size 20 threads from Flora and Lizbeth, the original colour scheme which I planned on, changed as I tatted. There was a slight size difference in the Size 20 of the two threads but it isn't too noticeable.

'Under An African Sky' pattern is designed by Jane McLellan. Thank you Jane, for a wonderful pattern.

Please link to these blogs: Fox;  Denise;  Ninetta;  Kristen;  Pigmini;
to see the progress of other participants in this challenge. There is no deadline and tatters are tatting according to their own schedule. I am eager to see the other doilies in progress as I believe each will turn out slightly different and each will have its own beauty. If you are thinking of tatting this pattern, please do and it will definitely be a very fulfilling experience.

Edging for Coaster #6

Another edged coaster with a pattern from Julia Sander's Tatting Patterns (Fig. 5 on page 4). I winged the corners. I hope it looks ok.

White Phalaenopsis

A wonderful display of white orchids in a stone planter.

Hen and Chick (MK#66)

Above is a pattern by Mary Konior called Hen and Chick from her book 'A Patttern Book of Tatting' on page 28. Tatted in Lizbeth 20 Springtime #115. The coasters comes in a set of 4 and I bought 2 sets. So there are more coasters to embellish.

The second 'botanical coaster' which I showed you in an earlier post is ready to use.

Growing . . .

Remember the bittergourd seedlings? They have grown under the care of a friend and are flowering already. With some luck we will have some fruits soon.
