Fussy Tsuru

The shoe box burst open so we got her a bigger box. Just like her fussy behaviour about her food, the box was coincidently from the canned food. She loves her box so much that she has begun sinking her teeth in it. The canned food, . . . . not so much, she turns up her nose on it.

The double picots in this pattern proved an interesting feature. The second thread gap after the ring, needs to be longer than the first to accommodate the inner picot. The top is tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 Col. 137 Berry Burst and the bottom is tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 Col. 132 Tropical Punch. Pattern is from the Tatting Artistry of Teiko Fujito on page 74. The double picots in this photo were not very obvious. You might have to click on the photo enlarge it.

The New and the Old

The Capitol theatre has opened after some refurbishment. It has been incorporated with the new building on the left. Many cafes, restaurants and shops to entice you in but the kids are more interested in the water feature. On a humid evening, the water is much welcomed.

This oval motif is tatted in 5 parts. I do like the shape of this. Done in Lizbeth Size 20 in Col. 122 Caribbean. Pattern is from Teiko Fujito.

Bak Kut Teh

This is a popular dish here. My earliest memory of it was when grandpa would take my sister and I with him for breakfast. He would order the pork rib soup (cooked with a variety of Chinese herbs, garlic and peppercorns) and the eu char kueh (Chinese crullers).

In addition to that, I ordered a bowl of rice, mui chai (preserved vegetables) and tau kee (soya bean strips). We shared this as it is too much for one person.

It looks a little different from the photo in the book The Tatted Artistry of Teiko Fujito. This is the first pattern in the book on page 3. This could be because my thread gaps were a little longer than in the book. Tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 in Col. 700 English Rose Medium and Col. 675 Fern Green Medium.

Hedges

These two plants made a great combination : in terms of colours and leaf shape. It is a hedge by the car park lot at one of our makan haunts. That's where we would sometimes have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Where we buy our durians, do laundry and visit Sheng Shiong supermarket for groceries. Wanton noodles, fish soup and fried oyster at this place are quite good.

Houses on Emerald Hill

A quiet Saturday morning.  It was peaceful at this residential area just off Orchard Road. Conserved Straits Chinese styled houses lined with frangipani trees. 

Mehndi

At a recent fair, there was a lady selling handmade jewellery and henna tattoos. She was tending the stall all by herself and I was amazed at how she multi-tasked.  She could carry a conversation with one customer, sold earrings to another while she designed this on my hand.
