Shuttle Exchange with Tatting Goddess

Isn't she a truly rare beauty? A red Clover shuttle embellished by Tatting Goddess with sparkling gems. It looks so luxurious and it tats well too. The gems did not get into the way too much. I love it . . . and the story that came with it.

Also included the in the package (besides a string of red crystals, two wire circles and a teatime postcard) was this little pin keeper. The bead in the centre is magnetic and the pin is securely attached. On the retractable end you could attach your crochet hook. I decided to attach my picot gauge because I lose it very often in the folds of my clothes when tatting. This is ingenious. I have seen this retractable card holders before but never thought of using it this way. The tatting which Gina put on is such a clever personalisation and it matches my self made picot gauge. I am really going to enjoy this. Thank you so much.

Shuttle Exchange with Typstatting

This green Clover shuttle was decorated by Typstatting. It came with a tatted phone charm and a card with the most adorable Siamese cat. I showed Tsuru the card but she couldn't be bothered. I have on more than one occasion seen her react to birds on the television. No reaction here.

These threads which Typstatting sent were in exchange for shuttles too. It was most generous of her to offer to get me some Altin Basak variegated threads. The Lizbeth is #115 Springtime (one of my favourite Lizbeth colours). I have this colour in size 40 and now one in size 20. This plus two other sample threads. One is labelled L101 which looks like Lizbeth Springflowers and the other is not labelled. Thank you so much. I love the shuttle and the thread colours, and the extra goodies you included. Thank you for agreeing to do the exchange.

Pearl Tatted Bracelet

An example of pearl tatting using Lizbeth 40 Leafy Greens (#138) with charlotte beads size 11 (Col. 359). Matching the beads to the thread was fun. I usually buy colours I like and then try to match them later when I am about to start the piece. Just added a green crystal pearl as the bead and loop clasp.

Shuttle Exchange with Val

This is the shuttle I received from Valerie for the shuttle exchange. Could it be coincidence that she chose the same colour shuttle as the one I sent her and that it is my favourite of all the 5 Clover pastel shuttles. I do appreciate that Val took time to get these pastel Clover shuttles and the nail decals to decorate it. As soon as I received it, I started tatting with it. Isn't it pretty. Thank you Val!!

Grand Aura Necklace

I started this necklace by tatting the edging. A pattern from Anne Orr's Tatting Book #13 on page 6 Plate 14. Tatted in Lizbeth 20 in Vineyard Harvest (#131) with Miyuki Delica beads in pearl pink (DB210). It measures about 24 inches.
I added this antique silver-tone flower clasp in the front and then looked for a pendant to accompany this. I was browsing through Yarnplayer's 'Up and Tat 'Em' book and thought that the Grand Aura pattern (pg 7) would make a nice pendant to match. I looked for my focal beads and found a pink amethyst briolette and a Swarovski pearl.

This necklace is a belated birthday present for a dear friend. Did she like it? I hope so.

Cappuccino

This was the perfect end to a lovely lunch. It went well with the desserts that were offered. A beautiful heart design which I had to destroy but not before I took a photo. Outside the restaurant, in the hotel lobby, we had live songbirds serenading. A lovely touch.

Pearl Tatting

I thought it was about time I tried some pearl tatting. This is made into a simple necklace. It is for a friend who may want to wear it as it is or with a focal pendant. This is about 24 inches in length. I think I may make another one slightly shorter in a different colour thread and beads.
I love shopping for supplies and trying to match bead colours with the different variegated threads. This one is tatted in Lizbeth Berry Burst Size 40 with pearlescent Miyuki Delica beads (DB628).

Progress of Rose Garden

It is now half way done. I was not sure what shape I wanted when I first started this but I finally decided and hope it will turn out okay. I am blocking as I go along but I may have to use the steam iron for the final piece. I am tatting this in between other small pieces.

Umi & Tsuru October 2010 Blog Giveaway

Tatted in Lizbeth 20 Mountain Breeze with gold Delica beads onto a bronze-tone metal filigree. Swarovski crystal pearls in olive green (5mm) sewn into the centre. About 3cm across and hangs approx. 5cm down.
If you would like a chance to win this, just leave a comment before 27 October 2010. I will use the random number generator to pick a winner.
Thank you for all your comments. I am so glad you like them. I found the filigree in our local bead shop. Thanks to TattingChic, I have new visitors. All are welcome to participate, even past giveaway winners. There isn't a pattern to these earrings, I just tatted a simple edging around the filigree, added some beads and picots. The pattern of the frame I tatted for TattingChic is Maids of Honour from Mary Konior's Tatting with Visual Patterns (pg 41). See the post of it here. I hope this will encourage you to tat too.

Princess Umi and Tsuru

When the pillowcase is changed, she is the first to notice and sit on it. She has a nose for fresh linen. This pillow is not her bed but you cannot prevent her from lying on it, when she feels like it.

And . . . . when Umi is not looking, see who invades the pillow and gets comfy. Tsuru is in deep sleep. She loves to bury her face.

Mimosa Earrings

This is a pattern called Mimosa from a Japanese book called Peikko by Takako Kitano. The patterns in this book are all very simple but I love the photography and the items created.
Above is my interpretation of the pattern tatted in Milford Size 40 in taupe.

And in Milford Size 40 in white.

The book cover (above) and the original mimosa necklace, earrings and bracelet in the book (below).

Mail from England

Who doesn't love receiving mail? Especially when it comes in such lovely handwriting on handmade paper with flower petals and wax sealed. Thank you Joelle for the lovely letter and beads. I love the little tatted leaf which wrapped around the package. You did not have to but I do appreciate the gesture. Thank you so much!

Slipper Orchids

These are award winning orchids. I did not note down the names but they are all slipper orchids. The shape of the lip is very distinct. These are indoor shots without the flash. Enjoy.

Progress with Rose Garden

My progress with Mary Konior's rose garden pattern is a little slow. This is how far I got so far but more should be done soon. This is tatted in Lizbeth 20 Dark Olive (#678) and Mountain Breeze (#134).

Butterfly for a Necklace

I bought Gutermann Sulky Cotton 12 Col. 4006 to try. It is a variegated thread in autumn colours. Wanted to give the butterfly a tailed wing - two-tailed swallowtail. Added some Bronze Delica beads. Necklace is ready in my Etsy shop here. These earrings were made to match. Which pair do you think is more suited for the necklace?

Package from Georgia

Look what came in the post with Georgia's books 'Tatting talk' and 'Tatting on the edge and beyond'; tatting patterns in the public domain cd and 5 booklets of vintage crochet patterns. I have crocheted in school but never made anything. Perhaps I will pick it up one of these days. Thank you, Georgia.

Pomelo Fruits

I posted mooncakes and tea last year around the mid-autumn festival here. This year, I totally missed it but I did buy some pomelos. I hate peeling them but they taste refreshing when served cold. It is like a huge mandarin orange. Pomelos are usually eaten during the mid-autumn festival. I just made a drink with iced tea, honey, mint and pieces of pomelo. I will also have it in my weekly salads. This is the pink variety. Pomelos sold here are mainly imported from Malaysia, Thailand and China.

Tatted with Lizbeth Country Side

Another new necklace is ready. Just posted earlier today here. I like this colourway from Lizbeth and this time I used Size 40 and it looks more delicate. The necklace gets longer and longer.

~Safety precaution: Please do not wear when working with heavy machinery. ~

A pair of earrings will be included with the necklace if you list 'RTFB' in the buyers comments.

Sun Setting at 6.50pm

The other day I posted the moon at 7am. This is the view from the same window in the evening on two different days. How often do you notice the sun setting? I don't. We live in high rise apartments with the windows shut and curtains drawn in our little air conditioned boxes. Sometimes I notice the sun setting when we are driving home on the expressway or when I am about to have my shower before dinner, but it isn't often.

Will post it with details, when it is done.

Blinged Shuttle Exchange from Happy Bluebird

I received my first blinged shuttle today. It's from Happy Bluebird. Thank you!
It's in green and polka-dotted and it has a matching bag. I love it! I forgot to take a photo of the back as it is also decoupaged on the back in the green polka-dot fabric. I hope it will give you more ideas to decorate your own shuttles.
