More of August Project 2

My first batch of iced cupcakes with butter cream roses. I made a small batch of chocolate butter cream roses too. Who had the chance to be my test subjects / guinea pigs to taste them? Hmmmm you know who you are. I reduced the sugar in the cake recipe and the chocolate butter cream is actually less sweet than the normal butter cream. I thought the cake was a little dry and the muffin tray was too small for the paper cups so they were a little deformed. I only had one proper muffin tray. Will do better next time. Cake decorating could also be improved. Roses looked oversized but when I put them into individual packaging they do look pretty. Sorry I forgot to take a photo of that one, too excited to give it away.

August 2009 Giveaway

This tatted heart pattern is by Teresa Woods. I tat these often because I just love how simple and pretty the pattern is. I joined two hearts using split rings and made a book mark. You could also tie it round your wrist or use it as a choker round your neck. I think it would be long enough if you had a small neck.

All you have to do to participate in this giveaway is tell me what other colour you would like to see this in and how you would use it. Just leave a comment before 1st September 2009 and your name will be placed in a draw. Tsuru will pick the winner.

What's the giveaway? You guessed it, a similar bookmark/bracelet/choker in the colour you indicated.

New shuttles arrived

These arrived a few weeks ago. Aren't they pretty? Shuttles from Georgia Seitz. I love them. They make me smile. I just love shopping for shuttles. A tatting addict can never get enough of threads, HDTs, tatting books/patterns and shuttles.

Peek into August Project 1

This is mom when she was twenty. She will be seventy this August and I am making this for her birthday. She is standing on a wooden bridge at a famous landmark in the town she grew up in.

A peek into August Project 2

Ice the cake and pipe in the stars to make a pastel rainbow. One star each time and my fingers were aching by the time I finished.

Make wavy clouds at the bottom of the rainbow, not a pot of gold. Pipe in the clown and put on it's head.

Viola, my attempt at cake decorating. I baked this lemon poppy seed cake with expired baking powder cos I did not have time to go to the supermarket. I just tasted it, a little too sweet with the icing. I shall use less sugar in the cake next time.
