Planting Vegetables

 

 

I love to eat this but only certain supermarkets sell it. So after removing the leaves for preparing the soup, I planted the stems in my balcony garden. It is growing long and spindly as it does not get enough sun to grow. It is a climber and if you do not cut it back it will twine around the iron grilles of the balcony. This vegetable is called Malabar Spinach. See the cooked soup here.

Worry Knot

 

 

Have you ever caught yourself fiddling with your pendant constantly? I have. This pendant is perfect for you as the centre stone can be rotated. This pattern is from 'Tatting the Stone' book by Victoria Clarke.

I used a hexagonal cylinder bead of a Botswana Agate, Lizbeth Size 40 Latte Foam (#168) and delica beads size 11. It was easy to tat and you can easily adapt this pattern for any bead size.

Denim Whisper Edging Completed

This scarf was too large for my blocking board so I had to find an alternative way to get this blocked. This scarf I bought was hand tied and dyed with the wrinkling. When I washed it, the colour faded a little and when I ironed it, the wrinkling flattened out. It looked much more interesting with the original tie and dye wrinkling.

All in all I tatted four. The last one is done in Lizbeth Size 80 in #106 Spring Fling. The tails of the charcoal and latte are done in split rings with beads in between and the Size 80 tail is a normal spiral. Which one of these pendants would you wear?

Planting Roots

 

What is it that I want to show you?

It is the plant that decided to grow in the crack of the building and put roots down nearly all the way to the ground. It could be a Ficus. We were at this shop to buy nyonya kueh/cakes. I especially like the ondeh ondeh and kueh dadar from here.

One More Beaded Pendant

 

I reduced the number of beads in this one and added the tail in Victorian sets of 5 half stiches. This was tatted with Lizbeth Size 40 in #156 Juicy Watermelon with Miyuki Delica beads in metallic green and two Swarovski crystals. I need to add tails to the first 2 pendants too and maybe tat another in a smaller size thread.

Pinwheel Tatted Doily 2

 

This one is tatted in Lizbeth size 40 #165 Grape Splash and Venus Size 40 #678 Lilac. This time, I switched the variegated thread and solid thread around. It is a more subtle version than this. I love the shape of this. What do you think?

Beaded Pendant

 

It is called Cathedral Window on pg 13 of this Japanese book - A new approach to Tatting by Yusai Shokonin. I have had this book for sometime now but never attempted any of the patterns until now. I used Lizbeth Size 40 #607 Charcoal medium and #168 Latte Foam.  I did not like how the block tatting shaped up. Perhaps I could have blocked it differently. There were too many beads in the pattern for my liking.

The beads I used are Toho Size 11. There are plenty of pretty colours to choose from, inexpensive but the beads are not as uniform as Miyuki Delica beads.

Occasional Doily Completed

 

The last round is done. See this post on 24 May for details of the pattern and thread used. Not perfect - missed one or two picots and one ring and chain repeat. I hope it is not too noticeable.
