Current Favourite

This is her favourite dry food these days.
She won't eat unless she has some of this on her plate.

Distractions

Not much tatting has been done.
I tried to start another pattern from Lee Hye-Oon.
I guess I was distracted with too much online shopping
that I tatted this all wrong.
Can you believe that this was all I tatted the whole
of last week.

Streets of Shanghai French Quarter

We took a lovely morning stroll through some of the loveliest streets lined with these trees.

As the autumn temperatures were getting cooler, we saw residents airing their blankets getting ready for winter.

This local grocer had many fruits and vegetables and other sundries catering to the community in the area.

Naupaka Doily

Have you visited Lovely Tatting by Lee Hye-Oon? This pattern is on her website. I tatted this in Venus Size 40 in Col. 486. Does it look like it is spinning? Or my eyes are playing tricks? I did not block it before taking a photo.

She has also published two pattern books. I have just ordered them.

Peace Hotel Shanghai

Every city has a grand old dame.
The last time we visited, it was under renovation.

Beautiful old architecture with grand interiors.

A beautiful flower arrangement greeted us at the lobby.

Intricate light fixtures

Love this door to the jazz club.
Home to the oldest jazz band that has been playing here every night for over 20 years.
Average age of the six band members is 76 years old.

We should make an effort to listen to the jazz band next time we visit.

Zhujiajiao

We visited Zhujiajiao to watch Water Heavens by Tan Dun.

An ancient water town about an hour from Shanghai.

Lots of tea houses with seating overlooking the river.

A quick peek at the stage before the concert started.
It was an interesting experience.
More info here on their website.

Hope you enjoyed the photos.

Simplism

I think it is done. I will stop here.
There are many more rounds left in the pattern but I think I like it as is at 11 inches across.

A pattern by Ha Mi-Kyoung in her book 'Tatting Lace With Your Life'. The pattern is found on page 104.

I used Lizbeth Size 40 in Col. 155 Ocean Sunset, Col. 635 Violet Pink Dark, Col. 657 Ocean Turquoise Dark and Col. 664 Ocean Teal Medium.

Green Sanctuary

We were shopping in this shop which had some beautiful cashmere outfits and interesting jewellery. Behind the shop, you could sit, relax and have a cuppa. We were not the only ones there. Meet these occupants.

Grandma’s Bedak Sejuk

I remember my grandmother using 'bedak sejuk' (cooling powder). She made it herself by fermenting rice grains with pandan leaves until it turned into powder. She would then drop them on paper and dry them in the sun. Every Sunday before church, she would take a few, wet them with a few drops of water and apply onto her face. It would dry on her face into a thin layer of white powder.

If you apply it in a thick layer, it makes a good facial mask. I saw it on sale in Malaysia recently and bought a bottle to try. This one did not have the pandan fragrance.

Holiday Postcard

This is the night scene of the Bund in Shanghai, China.

I did try to blog from where I was holidaying but with the new iOS update, I could no longer use the Blogger app.
