Peacock Feathers

It was quite a sight.
Pretty colours. Shining in the morning sun.
We were at a Sunday street market in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Chinese New Year Decorations

The mall decorations for the upcoming Chinese New Year are up. Cherry blossoms, red lanterns and flowers galore.

The flower tunnel with streamers was very popular with shoppers. Many family photos were taken here. Little girls and boys posing with dads and moms for the family albums.

Embroidered Shorts

It is machine embroidered. I practically waited a year to get this but it will be worn to welcome the lunar new year in mid February. Do I have 15 new outfits to ring in the new year? I might, but I doubt I will make an effort to do it. I will just wear whatever is comfortable. Oh yes, I have that ethnic blouse from this post to wear too and other dresses I bought from Shanghai.

Alice Doily WIP2 (LHO1)

Tatted 2 more rounds since the last update. Lots of tiny rings. My poor fingers are getting thread burn from closing the small rings. Many more small rings to tat.

Decided to change thread colour to Lizbeth Size 40 Col 180 Honey Drizzle. When will I learn to use a solid colour thread? I started out with one which looked promising but too boring.

Pandas

I have not visited the real pandas at the River Safari but I have seen this panda family a number of times now. That is because it is on my way home on the train. They are probably more cooperative for photos.

Josephine Doily Completed

It is done. This pattern by Lee Hye-oon is found in her book Lovely Tatting Doilies for Spring and Summer on page 105 but you can also find it on Lovely Tatting here.

This was tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 Col.185 Artic Waters. I had thought I would run out of thread but it was sufficient. While blocking, I realised a mistake. I have corrected it but it was after this photo was taken. See if you can spot it.

Now I can focus on Alice, the doily I am tatting now.

Lift Lobby Cat

He looks almost as handsome as Mr G.

He was a little shy.
I had to take a few shots before he even looked at me.

Simple Light Fixtures

This was a Korean restaurant and what caught my eye was the light fixtures. Basically it was a large rope knotted in several areas ending in a simple light bulb. I found it simple yet creative.

Josephine Doily WIP4

I have just started Round 17. This is the final round of this Lee Hye-oon pattern. It won't be long now. It looks like I will have sufficient thread. It needs blocking when it is done. I will probably post it next week. Do come by to have a look.

We have been having some unusually cooler weather these few days. It was cool enough to sleep without the air conditioner. But it was still very humid.

Thank you for your comments in my posts. I have not been tatting much so you will see less tatting posts.

It's Cake Time

We came across this cake truck by chance. The truck looked very cool.

Decided to check it out. Different cakes for takeaway.

Bought one to try. It was not bad. Must try their cheesecake next.

Josephine Doily WIP3

This is my progress so far. Just finished Round 12. I should have used a solid colour thread instead of this which is Lizbeth Size 40 Col. 185 Arctic Waters. The ball is running down fast. I hope I have enough to finish it. Only 5 more rounds to go. I could stop here but what is the fun in that.

Coffee Shop Cat

She seemed contented sitting on that stool. Attentive to her surroundings. Several times, she ran to the kitchen as if she knew food was going to be served.

When Tsuru is hungry, she would sit in front of me and stare, that is her way of telling me. She picks her favourite kibble from the mix that I give her and leaves the rest.

Alice Motif LHO #1

This is the first Lee Hye-Oon pattern that I tatted from her book titled Lovely Tatting Doilies for Spring & Summer. I really love the patterns in this book. This pattern, just like some other patterns in her book, starts off as a motif which then continues to a doily. I suppose you can stop tatting at any stage but I will continue while tatting the Josephine doily too. Although the Josephine doily pattern is also included in this book, I had started tatting it from her pattern in her blog.

Using two shuttles, it is tatted in one round. Done in Lizbeth Size 40 Col. 677 Lime Green.

Christmas Trees

These real trees outside a restaurant had simple decor and lights.

Are these cardinals? Artificial though.

Simple but pretty

Bamboo Walk

This is a green shady walkway lined with bamboo into the mall. We drove into the basement carpark and as we took the escalator up, we were greeted by this just outside the entrance. We were there to get some last minute ingredients for Christmas eve dinner at home. I needed some ground beef for shepherd's pie.

Christmas Cakes

Happy New Year! I hope you had a great time ringing in the new year. Mine was spent quietly at home.

These Christmas cakes were decorated by my niece. The cakes were made in the shop she is working in. The top reindeer was done in the cake shop and the remaining two were done at home. Without the right tools and supplies, the cakes decorated at home seemed messy. All three tasted good and sinful as they were full of butter. She also had a small red velvet cake ready for me to take home. My sister made fruitcake drenched in brandy. So, the cakes kept me happy for days.

Kathy asked about the cakes. So I wanted to post these even though it is a little late.
