Stawasz Doily XIV

This pattern is one by Jan Stawasz in his 2nd book 'Tatted Treasures' on page 76. Tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 #175 Scottish Thistle and #646 Purple Iris Lt. I blocked it but perhaps it needs an iron through. I have a feeling it would look better in a thicker thread as in the book.

  1. Love your color choice! I've tatted several of these in size 80 thread. It's not the thread size, they really need a steam iron. They don't 'respond' as well to blocking as they do to ironing. I do a mix of both - spread a thick towel over the ironing surface, dampen slighly, flatten and shape, hover just over the surface with the iron but don't actually TOUCH it (yet), shape again, then give it a quick, light press and let it dry on the towel. Yours looks lovely.

  3. Don't worry. This looks excellent, I prefer it to the original, because I mainly work with thread # 40 and 80, and I like fine lace. We are all used to look at Jan's strong sturdy work, which is also very nice, but different.
    The colors are great.
