Tatted pink bunny

I was looking for bunny patterns and found this one by Heather Johnston here. Does mine look like a bunny? Quite easy to do except for the ears as you can see, it is a little crinkly. I'm getting ready for easter. Will make a few more in different colour threads.

Homemade mee rebus

This is mee rebus, a local dish which we enjoy. Last weekend, we ate at a hawker stall in Bedok which came highly recommended. It was Sunday brunch and because the stall is so popular, I had to queue about 20mins just to get a taste of it.

This weekend, I browsed through some recipes on the internet and decided to combine two and made my own. Top photo is before I added the gravy. The plate contains yellow noodles and bean sprouts with the garnishings (green chili, hard boiled egg, prawn fritter, fried bean curd, sliced beef and a calamansi lime). Second photo shows garnishings added after gravy was poured over. The gravy is made of beef stock, mashed sweet potatoes and a mixture of spices. It tastes slightly sweet and spicy. I still miss the version that my aunt made. That was yummy!! I wonder who has her recipe.

I wanted to try out more colour combinations for Emma Crew's tatted egg pattern and Lisa Trumble's button flower pattern. Here's more! What's next?

Nostalgia

I have probably flipped through the photo album only a couple of times in my life but it was not until last week that I looked at this photo and thought how it touched my heart. "Back in those days, letters took a week or more to arrive. It is instant these days with e-mail and smses." That is what she said to me when she saw this photo.

Comfort Doll Project

I sent off some icicle dolls late last month to Pat in the US and Jo in NZ. They were for the comfort doll project. I wanted Pat and Jo to receive the package before posting the dolls here. I hope they will bring some comfort to the recipients. You can read more about this project initiated by Pat here http://www.comfortdolls.blogspot.com/

Six dolls above were sent to US

These three dolls above were sent to NZ. The one in the middle was done using Pat's altered child kit.

Happy Lunar New Year

Going home for reunion dinner tommorrow. My mother usually cooks for this dinner but this year my sister and I decided to cook a dish or two. It is traditional to cook lots of food so that you can fill your refrigerator with leftovers. This will ensure that you will always have sufficient to eat for the rest of the year. An old tradition.

So this is my dish for tommorrow. Pork with white radish and scallop. We have it with steamed rice so all the other dishes would go with rice.

New tatting

I tried out two tatting patterns last weekend. This is what it looks like. The easter eggs is a pattern I found online by Emma Crew. The yellow and green egg is tatted with Cebelia thread size 30 and the mauve and purple egg is tatted with Flora thread size 20. The button flower pattern is by Lisa Trumble and it is done with Flora size 20. I'm going to make more of these in different colours.

Violet and Willie

Finished Violet and Willie sometime during the week. All the altered child kits used up. Many hours of fun! Violet has glittering threads running though her wings. Her collar and sleeves dotted with tiny flowers, a lace hem and beaded dots on her dress. She in purple and green. I love Willie's button theme. Buttons in his wing and oversized buttons on his shirt front. He is in baby blue with glittering threads in his lollipop wand. I did not embelish him as much as the girls. Let's keep him simple.

My third button fairy

This button fairy is from Cindy in US. Pretty buttons with a striking butterfly wing. It is my third and last button fairy in this particular exchange. My next exchange is a Easter dotee doll swap which is due in early March. I'll start on that after the Chinese New Year. I also sent off some dolls. I will post photos maybe next week.
