Peace Hotel Shanghai

Every city has a grand old dame.
The last time we visited, it was under renovation.

Beautiful old architecture with grand interiors.

A beautiful flower arrangement greeted us at the lobby.

Intricate light fixtures

Love this door to the jazz club.
Home to the oldest jazz band who has been playing here every night for over 20 years.
Average age of the six band members is 76 years old.

We should make an effort to listen to the jazz band next time we visit.

Zhujiajiao

We visited Zhujiajiao to watch Water Heavens by Tan Dun.

An ancient water town about an hour from Shanghai.

Lots of tea houses with seating overlooking the river.

A quick peek at the stage before the concert started.
It was an interesting experience.
More info here on their website.

Hope you enjoyed the photos.

Simplism

I think it is done. I will stop here.
There are many more rounds left in the pattern but I think I like it as is at 11 inches across.

A pattern by Ha Mi-Kyoung in her book 'Tatting Lace With Your Life'. The pattern is found on page 104.

I used Lizbeth Size 40 in Col. 155 Ocean Sunset, Col. 635 Violet Pink Dark, Col. 657 Ocean Turquoise Dark and Col. 664 Ocean Teal Medium.

Green Sanctuary

We were shopping in this shop which had some beautiful cashmere outfits and interesting jewellery. Behind the shop, you could sit, relax and have a cuppa. We were not the only ones there. Meet these occupants.

Oodles of Noodles

Noodles for lunch with girlfriends

With clams

With hairy crab meat and crab roe

So delicious, we ate a second round 2 days later.
Yes, I liked it a lot.

Grandma’s Bedak Sejuk

I remember my grandmother using 'bedak sejuk' (cooling powder). She made it herself by fermenting rice grains with pandan leaves until it turned into powder. She would then drop them on paper and dry them in the sun. Every Sunday before church, she would take a few, wet them with a few drops of water and apply onto her face. It would dry on her face into a thin layer of white powder.

If you apply it in a thick layer, it makes a good facial mask. I saw it on sale in Malaysia recently and bought a bottle to try. This one did not have the pandan fragrance.

This is the night scene of the Bund in Shanghai, China.

I did try to blog from where I was holidaying but with the new iOS update, I could no longer use the Blogger app.

Medallion Centrepiece

I had a lot of thread left on the shuttle after finishing the Maranta doily.

This was tatted with that Lizbeth Size 20 Rainbow Splash Col. 184. It measures 4 inches across.

This is the first pattern in 'Tatting with Anne Orr'. But you have to tat a bunch of these to join around a fabric doily.

I could only manage one. It seems enough. The outer rings look stretched. I could not believe that the threads space was listed as 0.75 inches so I reduced it to 0.5 inches.
