Beautiful Hydrangeas

I have always loved hydrangeas but never had green fingers to grow them. After seeing these lovely blooms, I was determined to try again. Wish me luck.

  3. Good luck! We have hydrangeas in our yard, but since I seldom think of gardening, they don't get the love and attention they deserve.

  4. Thank you all. I now have one small pot. I think I have killed a couple of hydrangea plants

  5. They love moisture, but if they make it to then end of the season and go dormant don't break off the brown "stick" branches. When new leaves return the brown "sticks" will put out green shoots. I have one that was small and is now about 3 feet high. It still hasn't bloomed. I'm like you Umintsuru I love hydrangeas! I have a orchid I got this year for Mothers day and it's trying to die, but my new little hydrangea is hanging in there even though it's very dry here now.

    1. Thank you Cassandra. Mine is in a pot as I don’t have a garden, just a balcony. I will need to make sure it does not dry out as it gets really hot here. I think they also do better in the ground. I have no luck with orchids either. I tried but it all just died on me.

  8. Hello Margaret,
I watered them yesterday morning and 4 hours later they were wilting. It has been hot. Same with the Impatiens.

  9. I always associate hydrangeas with my mother, she had magnificent bushes of the blooms in Sydney. I love the deep blue colour, someone who is a gardener told me that it depends on the acidity of the soil as to which colour you get.

    1. Thank you Maureen. My mother grew Hydrangeas in her garden too. She has better green fingers than me. Yes, that is right. Acidic soil for blue flowers and alkaline for pink flowers.

  10. I don't think I've ever seen this variety that has white edges! What a neat effect - like tatting/crocheting with two colors! My mother-in-law had an amazing ability with flowers - her hydrangeas came up every year and were in full bloom, and I took them for granted. She would get 'wilted' plants at a discount and turn them into healthy ones! I have little knowledge of plants and flowers, but did appreciate her skill. My solution is to buy silk flowers and put them around the outside of the house. It's the only way I can have flowers, but I need a lot of space to store them! I do have real rhododendrons that do well without any help from me, except I have to spray a deer repellent on them. I learned the hard way that deer love the buds!

    1. Hi Kathy, Good to hear from you. I would say your mother in-law has green fingers. Silk flowers are pretty too.
