Nasturtiums
Mom wanted these for her garden but I think they were grown for salads. How do they taste in salads? I have never tried them. They are not usually found in our supermarkets. If they do well in mom's garden, I will pinch some from her.
Watercress is sold and I love it in soups but it does not store well in the fridge so I seldom get them. We go grocery shopping once a week so I have to get vegetables that store well.

I once worked for a caterer who put the flowers in salads but the people generally put the flowers aside. He was French. We grow the flowers in our garden for their bright cheery colors.
ReplyDeleteLovely flowers, they are nit sold in our shops either, most people who eat them, grow them for their own use, the only thing with them is they get black fly here and then it's a pain to get rid of, so I don't bother to grow them. I have no idea what they taste of as I don't fancy eating flowers.

they are peppery. I have grown and eaten them in salads. I think you can cook with them too, but haven't done it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Michelle, Margaret and Ladytats for your personal accounts of Nasturtiums.
ReplyDeleteYou can fry them as well. Just bread them and fry in a little oil.
