Dongtai Lu Antique Market

Dongtai Lu is filled with street vendors selling antiques - original and reproductions. We were there quite early and some stalls were not open yet.

On our first trip to Shanghai, we bought one of these clocks. It does not keep good time and needs to be wound every day. They are probably reproductions but a lovely touch to your desk.

The above two mechanical clocks are interesting. I also saw some old combination padlocks but instead of numbers, you have to choose the right Chinese characters.

Old colourful biscuit tins

Ceramic figurines

You must be wondering what I bought. Just a chain maille(?)  bracelet with a dragon head.

Now how did it become a choker? Buy 2 bracelets and you get a better price.

  3. I love antiques - this market looks fun. I think I like the bracelets even better as a necklace!

  4. I agree with Margaret. It does look like an interesting place to visit. Nice bracelet/choker. I don't think it's chainmaille, however. It looks similar to a type of wire work called Egyptian spirals. You can Google it to see what it looks like.

  5. The market was interesting but I did not find any shuttles though. I was looking out for them.

Thank you Jeff, for the correction. Yes, they look exactly like the Egyptian spirals.

  6. What an interesting market! We don't have anything like that here in Winnipeg (or at least I haven't been able to find anything)
    That bracelet/necklace is just gorgeous!
