Christmas 2011 Snowflake #24

Before I tat from Susanne Schwenke's book, I have one more Myra Piper's pattern to show - No. 43 on page 16 of her book. I have not even tatted half of the patterns in this book. I think this snowflake turned out really pretty.

What about some beads to add a little sparkle? I tatted this snowflake for the PTG 2011 Quilt Fundraiser here. I hope they received it before the deadline.

  1. One of the things I really like about this pattern is that it truly does make me think of snowflakes and crystals. It has the perfect shape. A lot of tatted snowflakes are 6 points but they're all rounded (which I like) but it's not angled and pointed like true snowflakes are.

  3. Angled and NOT spindly! Perfect little snowflake. I particularly like those central silver beads. Very effective.

  4. The beads just make it glisten like snow.

  5. Realize this is a really old blog, and not certain if you still do this, but I'm trying to make this snowflake right now and am having a ton of issues getting the angles.

Myra self-describes as poor with directions...which I'm noticing. Because the rings alternate directions, I decided to use two shuttles, but it adds too much curve and not enough angle to it. How did you accomplish this?

  6. Hi Christina, I used one shuttle. Myra's pattern is correct. Click on the blog photo and note the chain stitches. In some cases you need to turn the chain so that you can join to the ring picots. If you need further help, please feel free to email me.
