Pinwheel Tatted Doily 2 WIP

Thank you for all your lovely comments in yesterday's post. It is such a pretty pattern from Nancy Tracy. I hope the post encourages you to try this pattern too. Thanks Michelle, I fixed the link.

For the second time around, I decided to tat the 5 individual motifs first before doing round 2 in light lilac. I thought I would make any mistakes compared to previous time. I was wrong . . . but all is well.

Pinwheel Tatted Doily

This wonderful design is by Nancy Tracy and you can link to this free pattern on the Be-Stitched pattern page. It is labelled as 'Tatted Doily Row 5 Feb 2012' near the bottom of the page.

Mine is tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 threads in Violet Pink Dark (#635) and Raspberry Frappe (#157) and measures about 8 inches across.

Funny that you only notice mistakes when you are blocking the piece. I found one in the photo and I could not let it be and did correct it later. I love the negative spaces. It is rather flimsy so it has to lie flat on the table. I think I will tat this again, . . . soon.

Thank you Nancy for a lovely pattern.

Underwater Slippers

Can you see fishes swimming among seagrasses? Another window display from a different outlet in another shopping centre. I did not go looking for them. They just pop up.

American Fast Food

This post is for Antiquarian for her comment in this post. I do enjoy fast food and we have a variety here. Occasionally we get cravings for KFC and McD's breakfast. One of our favourite burgers is from the above photo. The bacon guacamole burger is good. What is your favourite burger?

Proud Beauty Completed

I went with both colours. Now I think it is missing a little blue but it was difficult to alternate 3 colours with 8 petals. Proud Beauty is tatted with Lizbeth Size 20 and it measures about 12 inches across. Centre is tatted in Paintbrush (#126) and petals are tatted in Seagreen Light (#686) and Victorian Red (#670). See this post for details of the pattern.

Happy Birthday to S.
It was not too long ago since this photo was taken.
How fast time passes by.

Occasional Doily WIP

This sweet pattern is found in Tatting Doilies and Edgings edited by Rita Weiss. I started tatting the doily using Lizbeth Size 40 Pink Cocoa (#166) and continued with Fudge Dark (#697). The last round will take some time to complete.

Japanese Set Lunch

The meal came in a two-tier box with a lid. It was laid out and lid removed.

In the top tier is a grilled prawn with roasted garlic and corn cob, and a vegetable tempura.

Second tier was bowl of salmon sashimi with truffle dressing, futomaki and chawan mushi.

A separate bowl of miso soup.

It is all in the little details. Note the cherry blossom petals which was shaped from a lily bulb.

The sashimi and chawan mushi was delicious.

Narcissus

This is from the booklet 'Flowers of Lace - Put a Smile on Your Face'. The pattern is by Regina Brummett and you can also link to her pattern on her blog (left hand side under 'My Patterns and Tutorials).

I remember seeing this pattern and wanted to tat this so when I received the 'Flowers of Lace' booklet from Judy, I knew this would be the first one to tat. The pattern calls for a large safety pin or a knitting stitch holder. I have a knitting stitch holder but was too lazy to look for it so I just used a normal paper clip and it worked just as well. I think the ric rac / Victorian sets give the flower petals a nice touch.

Letter to Gian

Dear Mr G,
I learnt my lesson. Do not get curious when she brings out that little grey tub. Umi knew better than I. She would run and hide when she saw that little grey tub. Me, I had to sniff and investigate. That's what happens.

But just look at my white belly. And . . . . I get extra treats after that torture. Have you tried these? My absolute favourite.

Love, Tsuru.

Pandas in Singapore

Two pandas Kai Kai and Jia Jia arrived in Singapore last September on loan from China for 10 years. After one month of quarantine, they were introduced to their new home in the man made Giant Panda Forest at the River Safari. Their exhibit was open for preview last October.

I caught a glimpse of the fanfare in town and on the news last year. A few weeks ago the new River Safari was officially open. I have not visited but I did watch a National Geographic documentary on the pandas' move.

Bell Pepper

Do they look more like apples? Either one is fine. Another vegetable pattern tatted from the Japanese book 'Tatting Lace' by Sumi Fujishige. It is all in the blocking to shape the peppers.

Snowpeas

This pattern is found in a Japanese pattern book called Tatting Lace by Sumi Fujishige. Same book where I found the Denim Whisper edging. That reminds me, I must wash and block that edging and show you what I used it for. These peas are tatted in a ball of thread I got from Daiso.

Handcrafted Slippers

We found this in a night market in Chiangmai years back. The sole of the slipper is handcut with a pen knife into this design of two fishes. I remember buying a few pairs in various colours and designs as gifts. I recently found it in our shoe rack still wrapped in the original packaging. I seldom wear slippers so that explains it.

Proud Beauty WIP2

Which colour should I continue with? Seagreen Lt or Victorian Red? Or Lilac Dk or Royal Blue? Those are all the colours in Paint Brush. The centre is about 3.75 inches across in Size 20 threads. I think maybe the Victorian Red.

This dog seemed to have taken an instant liking to my dad.

This photo was taken in November 1997
while we were visiting New Zealand.

Proud Beauty WIP

This is a good way to show the colour changes of a thread. This Lizbeth Size 20 thread is one of the first I bought. This colourway is called Paintbrush (#126).

The pattern is called Proud Beauty found in this Dover book - 'The Tatter's Treasure Chest' edited by Mary Carolyn Waldrep. Val gave me a 10% discount coupon from The Book Depository. Thanks Val.

Afternoon Tea

Ahh. . . tea at home. Tea is from a teabag from Tesco and the pastry is from DONQ at Takashimaya. I cannot remember what it is called but it is a cheese and fruit tart. I like this one although no one has mentioned it in their reviews of this bakery.

New Edging in Denim Whisper

I am starting a new edging in Lizbeth Size 40 #120. It perfectly matches the 20 x 20 inches scarf. The pattern is from a Japanese pattern book. All rings. I am hoping it will rapidly grow in length.

The earlier motif which I tatted is also from this book by Sumi Fujishige.

Iris Edging

This pattern called Iris is from Frivole. My graduated picots are a little exaggerated in size but I do like how it turned out. This is a very pretty pattern. Thank you Frivole. This is tatted with thread leftover in my shuttle after the Anna's doily - Lizbeth Size 20 Raspberry Pink Lt (#623). It might be time to tat a hanky edging soon.

Flowers of Feathers

One more window display. This one is from Hermes. Look closely at the flowers which are made from shuttlecocks tinted in pastels. In school, badminton was my favourite sport.

Errors in Tatting

What do you do with such a piece. You can obviously see where the mistakes are. Can you spot them both?

Here is how it is suppose to look. I hope it is correct this time although the bare threads connected to the centre should be shorter.

Flowers of Slippers

Another window display that caught my eye. Flowers galore. Now you can have slippers in every colour. Great for the beach and on rainy days. Reminds me that I have a pair which is handcrafted but not from here. When I find it, I'll post it.

Twirly

One more pattern from Jane Eborall. This is tatted in Lizbeth Size 40  - Ocean Turquoise Dark (#657) and Country Side (#117). I was not happy with my tatting. Just one of those days.

Wall of Bulbs

A window display at Marina Bay Sands, I forget what shop it was but isn't it amazing? I hope these are fused bulbs and recycled for this purpose.
