Love in a Mist WIP

The thread is Wildflowers Blue Spruce by Caron. Another lovely gift from Fox. She spoils me! Thank you Fox.

I decided to use it to tat this pattern by Mary Konior in her book 'Tatting Patterns'.

Umi and Tsuru Shops

Umi and Tsuru are Japanese names so I was delighted to have found shops with their names. Umi means ocean in Japanese and Tsuru is the Japanese crane. I named Umi because of the colour of her eyes when she was a kitten and Tsuru because she meowed like a bird when I adopted her. In the photo, Umi Sushi is a chain of stores in Singapore and Tsuruha is a chain of stores selling cosmetics and toiletries in Bangkok.

Jatropha

The fruit reminded me of miniature green apples. They were quite fascinating. It is considered a poisonous plant but other species may be useful to produce biodiesel.

TIAS 2013 Day 6

I think the three rings on the left is a foot of some kind but what are those last 2 rings about? I am loving TIAS 2013 as each day of tatting takes only minutes to complete. Thank you Jane!! But, you must give us some hints on what this is going to end up as.

Tatting Zero

I have walked pass this lane every week for the past months. Watching the leaves on this grass patch. A range of colours, rain or shine.

I have not been tatting much. Done a little spring cleaning. This was because we had to change the >10 year old air con ducting pipes and had to move things around. I ended up looking at old photos and throwing out a lot of things we had collected over the years. I hate cleaning of any kind.

It made me a little sad after going through the old photos.

Secret Garden

In case you are wondering what is that green creature? It is a baby snail from Jane Eborall's doodles pattern page. The hair pin is my creation using Tat-ilicious HDT Rainbow-licious. I made the pin for Livi.

Cold Soba

It was a feast for the eyes . . . too.

Dahlia (MK#60)

This is a pattern from Mary Konior from her book 'A Pattern Book of Tatting'. The threads are Finca Presencia Size 16 in three colours. The threads were a gift from Fox. I think it is quite pretty although in this photo the light green is almost indistinguishable from the white.

Singapore Skyline from MBS

Photos were taken before and after dinner at a restaurant on the 57th floor of the Marina Bay Sands building. It was windy and cool as it threatened to rain but the weather held up. Dinner and the company was good. Cocktails on the sky deck is recommended for the fabulous views of the Singapore skyline. We had a great evening.

TIAS 2013 Day 3 & 4

Day 3
Jane made life easier as we had less to tat compared to Day 2 or Day 1. What might this become? There were some creative guesses. Read about them here.

Day 4
Day 4 was even easier. It now looks like a sleigh.

Catherine wheel join? What? Where? Sorry Jane, did not see that. Only realised it after.

Hong Kong Milk Tea

Hong Kong Milk Tea is a popular beverage.  To ensure that the drink is cold but not diluted by the melting ice, it is served in a ice bucket.

In Singapore, there are a number of Hong Kong cafes which serve this. In the local shops, this is just called iced tea with milk.

Cold drinks with ice is a norm in Singapore. Ice is served with any cold canned or bottled drink you order. We often forget that this is not the norm in some countries. Even on holiday, in winter, we prefer our fizzy drinks with ice.

Ellipse WIP

I have always wanted to tat an oval doily. Now or never! This is called Ellipse by Janet Carrol in her book Elegant Tatting Patterns. I am using Venus Size 40 threads in black.

Medinilla

A magnificent plant with large pendulous pink blooms. This photo was taken at the Cloud Forest at the Gardens by the Bay. When you enter the Cloud Forest, you get a refreshing mist from the water cascade and when you turn back and look up over the door entrance this plant greets you with its beautiful flowers.

TIAS 2013 Day 2

Here is how it looks after Day 2 of tatting.  You learn something new every day! Thank you, Jane!! I did not know you could leave a bare thread, tat a ring, then the split chain. Isn't that cool?

What could it be? What about a pink sailboat, a pink wizard's hat, a pink slice of pizza, a pink cocktail glass, a pink kite, a pink lampshade, a pink bikini bottom, one half of a pink bikini top . . .

I had been practising the split chain with the several pineapple heaven doilies tatted last year, so this was a breeze. I highly recommend the Marie Smith method blogged about by Frivole here.

I have not tried FS/BS tatting yet, maybe someday.

On another note, if you are having problems uploading photos on blogger, try this: When composing the post, switch to html (top left, next to 'compose'), upload your photo, switch back to 'compose' and post as usual. I had the same problem and this seems to work.

My Kai Lan Bouquet

This is Hong Kong Kai Lan which comes with florets. I was preparing this for a stir fry and thought it looked good as a bouquet. Is there a bride out there looking for a unique hand bouquet?

Windmills (MK#59)

This is a different Mary Konior Windmills pattern than this one. I could continue and make it larger but I think I will stop here for now. Can you see the pinwheel pattern it makes?

TIAS 2013 Day 1

This is my Day 1 results. I am hoping it is going to be an animal of some kind. How about a pink octopus? Oh wait, Jane already has one of her pattern page. There is also a pink flamingo. I have tatted neither. What about a pink unicorn?

More Phalaenopsis Orchids & TIAS 2013

I was browsing old files and found these. They were taken at a Bangkok Orchid show and what magnificent examples they are.

I did do the Tat It And See (TIAS) 2013 Day 1 but I have not sent in a photo yet. I'll try to take one tommorrow, when there is light. I missed last year's TIAS so I am determined not to miss this one.

Nephews with an Old Toy

An old toy can still bring lots of joy. The twin boys are enjoying it together. They are 13-month-old. I bought the toy 20 years ago for my eldest niece who will be 21 this year. How time flies. Earlier in the day their 4.5-year-old sister was also enjoying the toy all by herself. They can play this for hours in toddler time (many minutes in our time).

Threads from Fox

Fox sent me these Finca Presencia No.16 threads in three colours for me to try. This was a while back. As usual I forget where I keep things and forget all about them until I come across them again. So Fox, I am sorry this is very much overdue but better late than never. How do you like it so far? It is not completed yet but I will post it again when it is.

Tee with Tatting

She would not stand still for me to take a photo. This is my niece wearing the T-shirt with the tatting I made for her. See this post. She is now 4.5 years old.

Assam Fish

This is my favourite type of curry fish. The gravy is made with tamarind juice and lots of spices, poured over a steamed fish. You also get a variety of vegetables - okra, long beans, onions and eggplants. We had this with steamed rice, an omelette and green vegetables. It was delicious, as usual.

Another New Project

This is Windmills from Mary Konior's book Tatting with Visual Patterns. I tatted this in Olympus Size 40. I have a few shades of green in this Olympus Size 40. Maybe I will alternate the colours. I loved what Jeff of Bridge City Tatting did with his Windmills
and also here at Ambitatterous' post on shawls. Will I have the patience for a large piece?

Little Moth

I am not pleased with the result. It is a pattern from Tatting Lace by Sumi Fujishige. Has anyone else tried this? Perhaps it is just me or the colours I used. It looked pretty in the book.

Christmas Decorations at Orchard

I know Christmas is over and soon Chinese New Year decorations will be put up but I was down in town last month and wanted to show you what street decorations we had in our main shopping area. As usual I was photographing from a moving bus, on my way to Chinatown.

New Venture - Progress

I started this in white, then I started a new one in pink and finished that before continuing on with this one. Remember the Susanne Schwenke's pattern here. I am reluctant to continue. I may try a new pattern before deciding.

Kuala Lumpur Skyline

I took this when I was home for Christmas. We had lunch at my cousin's place on the 20th floor and it had a splendid view. You can see the KL Tower and the Petronas twin towers. It was a cloudy Christmas day. Christmas eve was spent feasting at my sister's house. The whole family was there and we had great news, another pair of twins will be the new addition to the family next year.

Happy New Year

. . . . . and Surprise Giveaway!!

Yesterday's post was a section of this doily I tatted. It is a pattern from Susanne Schwenke. In appreciation, I decided to do a surprise giveaway. I am picking a name using the random number generator from the comments made on yesterday's blog post

and the winner is Julie.
If you email me your mailing address, this doily is yours.
