More Windmills (MK#48)

Both are tatted in thread size 40 but the one on the left has smaller picots than the one on the right. I decided to stick to the smaller picots.

More windmills in different colours. All tatted in size 40 however the dark brown looks larger than the others. Hmmmm, why? The thread seems a little thicker or could it be because of the blocking?

Papillon Necklace in White

This is a longer version compared to the one in purple. I used a different bronze filigree stamping but the same butterfly. Bronze Delica beads are included in the tatting. View it here.

A complimentary pair of earrings will be included with the necklace if you list 'RTFB' in the buyers comment.

Blinged Shuttle Exchange

These shuttles have no owners and are ready for exchange. To participate, all you have to do is personalize a post shuttle, preferably with a pointed tip to exchange for one of these shuttles. I will randomly choose one shuttle for each person who has agreed to participate. Do e-mail me your mailing address.
Important note: If you like to tat fast using the slip and slide method, I would not recommend blinging the shuttle with a crystal as it will brush against your threads. For me, I like a pretty shuttle so one crystal need not slow me down too much. Also these are nail decals and the glue will not last forever as I did not put any varnish over the decal.

This new necklace has been posted in my Etsy shop here. I used bronze filigree stampings with metallic lilac Delica beads and Swarovski crystal pearls.

Woken up by the moon

This morning at about 5.35am, I woke up sensing something bright was shining on me. It was the moon. It was so bright that it shone directly through my window into my eyes. I took these photos at 7am and yes, that is the moon.

September 2010 Giveaway

This month's Umi and Tsuru blog giveaway is a pair of earrings made with tatting and orang asli beads. The beads were made by the Lun Bawang, an indigenous people of Sarawak, East Malaysia. Just leave a comment here before 30 September 2010 for a chance to win this. I will use the random number generator to pick the winner.

A mustard orang asli clay bead (10mm) with bronze-toned bead caps. Above it is a lace tatted in mint green Flora 20 cotton thread (#239) with opaque yellow Delica beads from Japan. Ear hooks and findings are bronze-toned. Length approx. 5.0cm / 2.0inch including ear hook.

How do you like the backdrop. It is a tea cup saucer (without the cup) which I picked up at a store in Mornington Peninsular years ago. It would have been so pretty if it came with the cup but I love the saucer too.

Blinged Shuttle Exchange - Update

Good news! I managed to get more shuttle packs so I have more shuttles to bling for the exchange. If you have indicated interest to do this shuttle exchange in my previous post and have not changed your mind, just send me an e-mail with your addy.

And if you are interested to get your own pack of pastel Clover shuttles (5 in a pack), drop me an e-mail too. I may be able to buy them for you. No promises.

Rose Garden (MK#49)

This turned out all wrong and I did not realize it until I was blocking it. One half has two picots and the other half has 3 picots. I was tatting one half one night and the other half the next night. I wasn't sure I liked the centre rose as the instructions made it look more 3D.

Then I decided to use Lizbeth Size 20 (#131, Vineyard Harvest) for the next attempt. This time I got all the outer picots right but decided to make the centre rose flat. Now looking at both I think I prefer the 3D version. What do you think?

Orchid Art

It was difficult to capture its beauty. Phalaenopsis blooms with banana leaves and stems. This was one of the exhibits in an orchid show I visited. The orchids at the show were just amazing.

Windmills (MK#48)

This is Mary Konior's pattern called Windmills in her book 'Tatting in Lace'. This is different from the other pattern named Windmills in her 'Tatting with Visual Patterns' book. If you remember Jeff of Bridge City Tatting tatted that pattern here and here. I should re do this with smaller picots. Thread use is Milford Size 40 in black.

Pastel Clover Shuttles

These are mine, mine, mine. I gave two away and kept the other three. And yes, I blinged them up.

I am currently using this brown one to tat.

These two (pink and white) are still brand new. Anyone wants to do a blinged shuttle exchange? I will exchange with the first two people to comment on this blog post. First person gets to choose which shuttle they prefer. In return, you can send me any shuttle (blinged/personalized).

Pear and Apple (MK#25)

I tatted the centre motif a few months back and blogged about it here. It was put on my to do list to tat more motifs. I really like this colourway which is Lizbeth Western Sunset (Size 20, #102). It looks like a totally different pattern when 7 motifs are joined up.

Thread Exchange with Tatknot

These are the threads Eliz of Tatknot sent me from the Thread Exchange - 2 cards of Manuela Size 10 and 4 cards of Cebelia 20. Lovely!

Eliz was so sweet to include a sample of Mettler quilting thread and this delicate pink bookmark. Thank you so much.

More Dragonflies

Fox sent me some beads together with the threads exchanged and I used them here for the pink and green dragonflies. Thank you, Fox. If you are wondering about the pink dragonfly wing, I twisted it before tying the ends.

This one is sparkly using the Altin Basak white with silver strand.

This one is Lizbeth 20 in silver with Delica beads.

This one is also with a twisted wing. Tatted with beads from Fox. You can pretty much shape the dragonfly as you pin it down before blocking. Hope you had some fun tatting it.

Falaisie Road Dragonfly Pattern

I named it after the road we lived on, where my sister and I spent many hours playing in the garden, catching dragonflies. Thank you to Gina and Fox for test tatting it for me. They gave me good suggestions which I have incorporated and hopefully you will find it easy to tat. I have a pdf file of this so if this image is not too clear, just leave your e-mail address and I will send you the file. Enjoy!!

A new orchid - Schoenorchis fragrans

I bought this little miniature orchid. This is not the first time as more than 10 years back I had one too. It eventually died due to neglect. This time I am determined to make it bloom. The leaves are less than an inch and the flowers are even smaller. Perfect for my balcony.

Now hopefully under my care, it will one day look like this. This is going to be my inspiration to take good care of it. Wish me luck.

Small Tatted Hummingbird

The Sweet Minnie Hummingbird pattern is from Karey Solomon's Tatting Times newsletter. Gina sent me 3 newsletters and in one of them was the little hummingbird pattern. It was the May 2009 Volume 18 Issue 2 on page 6. I wonder why it does not look like the photo in the newsletter. I think it is the shape of the mock ring which forms the body. Has anyone tatted this?

Judith

This pattern called Judith is on page 86 of Lyn Morton's Tatting Patterns. Why did I want to tat? It was because of its shape. Very seldom do I see oval shaped motifs in tatting. I think it will look even prettier in bright colours. I had some thread left over in my shuttle from the edging for the necklace. Thread used is the Lizbeth Size 20 in silver #506.

Tudor Rose

Pattern: Tudor Rose
Book: Tatting Patterns by Lyn Morton (page 12)
Thread: Vineyard at Dusk HDT Size 20 by Krystle Dawne
I love this HDT. Personally, I do wish the purple in the colourway was a little longer. The vibrancy of the purple is just so pretty. I am still smiling. I tatted this two weeks ago and did not have enough thread to complete another lariat with this HDT. No worries, I just ordered more from Krystle.

Thread exchange from Canada

This is my second package from Fox for the thread exchange. I received it about 10 days ago but did not get a chance to photograph this. Thank you Fox, for your gifts: beads, souvenir from Canada and the lovely card.

Tatted Edging Improvised

I was looking for an edging pattern which was symmetrical and not too elaborate for a necklace. Found this one in my Japanese tatting book 'Tatting Lace'. I find patterns which are made up of all chains, very suitable for this purpose. No need to worry about running out of threads. I added some Delica beads for contrast but also to match the pendant. The thread is Lizbeth Size 20 Col: 506 / Silver. It looks more light grey than silver. The polymer clay pendant is also from Michelle of Woman in Bloom.

Princess Umi's Sister

No pillow for this princess.
She made the choice . . .

. . . and decided that this new A4 size box is more comfy than a feather pillow.

Alexandra - WIP

I wanted a grey and pink combination but again I forgot to make the picots smaller. This pattern is Alexandra from Lyn Morton on page 22 of Tatting Patterns. I am hoping to continue this and make the 9 motif mat. I don't know if I will as I did not enjoy tatting this. Perhaps I should take a break.

Princess Umi

I wonder if she can feel that pea under that pillow.
I really need to put a pillow case on her majesty's bed.
Well, she is my Princess.
