Cornelia

Cornelia is a pattern from Iris Niebach's book Tatted Doilies. The pattern looked simpler than Milena but I had never 'retro tatted' so many times in one pattern as this. A lovely pattern by Iris but I guess I was not totally focussed when I tatted this.
This is a very auspicious pattern from the Chinese perspective, well at least I think so. What fruit do you see in this pattern and how many of these fruits do you see? I used Lizbeth Falling Leaves (Col. 100) in Size 20.
It took approx. 45 metres of shuttle thread and 20 meters of ball thread. If you are trying this pattern, please allow a little extra to be sure.

  1. Fabulous tatting! I am inspired.

I read your comments wrongly and thought you said 'suspicious' pattern and wondered what on earth you meant! When I researched it, I realized you meant something quite different! Pineapple, I am guessing and I see EIGHT - 8 - lovely lucky ones!

  2. Beautiful! Cornelia is one of my favorite patterns. I find that if I photocopy Iris's patterns and mark off each section as I finish it, I don't make nearly so many mistakes. I just started another Stella Alpina this morning from Tatting Fantasia.

I can see eight pineapples? Is what what I'm supposed to see?

  5. At first I thought the fruit you meant was a pineapple, but after seeing this web page: http://mynicegarden.blogspot.com/2010/02/solanum-mammosum-auspicious-chinese-new.html I think it is the yellow, pear-shaped fruit instead. Am I right?

Lovely tatting indeed, in both colors!

  7. I'm totally impressed, Wendy. It's no simple feat tatting doilies and you'd tatted two. Lovely work.

  8. All your guesses were good. I was thinking of 8 pineapples. I saw them in the book and chose Lizbeth's Falling leaves to tat with.

  9. I see pineapples too. You're such a FAST tatter! Not one but two doilies - and both of them look lovely.
