Christmas 2011 Snowflake #37
A Myra Piper pattern. This is pattern No. 8 on page 3 of her book. I have been neglecting the snowflakes. The thread gaps are about 3/8 inches in length. When tatting this, the thread gaps seemed too long but when blocking the rings needed to be pulled sideways into slight ovals. The other alternative is maybe to increase the size of joining picots or increase the stitch count for the rings. How would you change this, if you did not like the oval rings?
Another option is to make the spokes a bit shorter which brings those outer rings in a little bit and there will be less distance around for them to have to spread out in. I think you'll have to try your options to really know. Now if you add 1 stitch to the bottom part of the ring on each side below the picots, that might be enough. I don't think making the joining picots longer will look very good.
Though simple and very pretty, I think it looks a bit taut, so I would increase the count.

I vote for more stitches in the rings.
ReplyDeleteLovely pattern, I would not change anything, looks gorgeous.

I'f try it both ways, though with the bare thread "spokes" it might be a little much with longer picots... hmm..
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't change anything about the outer rings - I personally like the oval shape.
ReplyDeleteBUT, I'm sure it would work OK if the joining picots were longer?
Wouldn't really know without experimenting (wink)

ReplyDeleteThank you all for your kind comments and great suggestions. I will try out the different options and let you know.
