Nasi Lemak

This is one of my favourite local dishes. You normally have it for breakfast. This was brunch in Malaysia when I was visiting mom in June. I love this and must have it whenever I'm home. Although you can find it here in Singapore, it is slightly different.

It is rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves served with chilli, fried peanuts and ikan bilis (small anchovies), hard boiled egg or fried egg, slices of cucumber and a selection of seafood (cuttlefish cooked in chilli or deep fried fish), meat (beef or chicken rendang or deep fried chicken). This is normally served on a banana leaf or wrapped in banana leaves if it is for takeaway.

We ate at a road side stall. The first photo shows the basic plate and you then add on to that. On that day, we had the fried fish (mackerel?) and fried chicken. Usually my favourite is the basic plate with beef rendang. According to mom, this particular stall is famous for its fried chicken. We had to try it before heading back to Singapore. It was good! Antique Rose Teapot

This pattern is by Martha Ess from her book Tea is for Tatting. I used Lizbeth Size 40 #661 / Country Turquoise Medium. The pattern includes the cup, sugar bowl and creamer. I will post them as I finish them next week.

Tatting for Tatted Shuttles

I sent these off to Erin Hinton of The Shuttle Shop on Monday. They will be embedded in Epoxy to make the tatted shuttles. If you would like one for yourself, you can get the details here.

I used thread size 40 and Anne Bruvold's shuttle pattern. The threads used here is Lizbeth #122 / Carribean and Yarnplayer's Midnight Oil.

Applique Flower - Success at Last

Remember this? I finally realised what went wrong. I followed the instructions in the pattern to use a 17mm picot gauge. What I did not know was how the picot gauge was used. I usually use it horizontally but in this pattern the gauge was used vertically so my picot was half the size it should have been. Imagine me trying the weave the picots into a space half the original.




Well, here it is. A pattern called Applique Flower in Rosemarie Peel's book "Tatting for Pleasure". I used Flora Size 20 threads in three colours #208, #234 and #246.

Shuttle for Exchange - Pink Butterfly

Fuchsia Spray

This pattern is from Rosemarie Peel's "Tatting for Pleasure" book. Tatted in Flora Size 20 threads in variegated green and variegated pink. I love this plant but Singapore is just too hot to grow them. But now, I could tat a whole lot of them.

Little Teapots

My favourite from these set of three is the small red teapot - fat and stout. These are from Martha Ess' "Tea is for Tatting" book. I am currently tatting the Antique Rose Tea Set from the same book. Will post it when I'm done. In the meantime, this is what I have so far.

Magnolia Blooming

The magnolia petals fold spirally into a bud. It is a blooming magnolia. This magnolia is a little larger about 2.5 inches across, I tatted it again using a larger sized thread. In this colour, it could also pass off as a lotus bud.

After sleeping on it and trying again, I really gave up this time.

I will have to try this all over again . . . Hmmmm maybe next week.

Tatted Butterflies - Iris #2

I have tatted this Iris butterfly before here. It is in the same colour scheme using Lizbeth 20 Tropical Punch and Azalea Medium; but this time the variegated thread is used in the lower wing, outer edges of upper wing and body. I like the shape of this butterfly. It measures about 7.5 inches across.

Dragonflies Galore

Flurry Snowflake

This post is especially for Fox of Tat-ology. She wanted some inspiration and how could I refuse her. So here it is!! Just finished and not even dry yet (top).

Tatted Flowers for Judy

I thought these could look like rose buds so I tatted these for Judy of CJ Stitching and Blooms when she requested for some tatted roses for an exchange. I waited till she received them before posting these. The buds are actually the magnolia centres from Nancy Tracy's magnolia blooms.

1000th post

To celebrate my 1000th post, I am giving away three blinged shuttles and three tatted magnolias (about 2 inches across). The magnolia pattern is by Nancy Tracy of Be-stitched, just in case you would like to tat your own magnolias.

Tatted Butterflies - Nora

This one is called Nora, also from Adelheid Dangela's 'Tatted Butterflies' book. Tatted in three different colours. The thread is Olympus Gold Special Knitting Yarn. No size indication, but it looks like Size 10 or thicker. I may put it on a T-shirt for my niece, the older one.

Amazing Pattern

Look at the pattern on the petals of this orchid. Reminds me of a DNA fingerprint. The colour of course is one of my favourites, which is why it caught my eye.

Tatted Butterflies - Josie

This is Josie from Adelheid Dangela's Tatted Butterflies. This is the butterfly that appears on the cover of the book. It looks a little different in a variegated thread. I tatted this in Altin Basak's Size 50 #3002 which Typs Tatting sent me. It was the perfect colour for a butterfly.

Food Art

Friday was a public holiday and we had brunch in town. Some of the dishes we had could be described as food art. We had a table by the window so the light for photography was quite good. I discretely took some photos. They were all very delicious.

Shuttle Exchange with Teresa

Look what I received from Teresa of Stitching n Knitting. It looks sparkly and pretty. Purple and green, one of my favourite colour combination. Thank you so much, Teresa. This package took some time to arrive and this was because it made a trip to Indonesia before landing in Singapore. It probably got stuck to another envelope bound for Jakarta. I am going to use this shuttle for my next tatting project.

Rose Garden Completed (MK49)

This is a pattern called Rose Garden by Mary Konior found in her book Tatting in Lace on page 87. Done in Lizbeth Size 20 in Dark Olive (#678) and Mountain Breeze (#134).

16 motifs form this diamond-shaped mat which will be framed. It measures approx. 16 inches across.

Green and Brown Orchid Blooms

Sorry, no identification provided here but aren't they in such unusual colours? There were hundreds of orchids at the show and I could only manage to take photos of those that caught my eye.
