My Tatted "Heart's Desire"

This pattern designed by Susan Fuller called Heart's Desire can be found on Georgia Seitz's site here. Many tatters have made this heart in various threads and colours and some have said that this is their favourite heart tatting pattern. It is an interesting pattern to tat. I enjoyed it!

Tatted in Lizbeth Size 20 in Summer Fun (#104). This thread is from the Thread Exchange with Miranda. Two mistakes were made here but it still looks okay with the pretty colours; if you do not look too closely.

Tatted in Altin Basak Size 50 (Col. 3051). This thread was from the thread exchange with Jon. Pastel colours make this heart very sweet.

Tatted in Omega Size 30 (Col. 850). This thread was from the thread exchange with Martha. I like the colours in this variegated thread.

Tatted in Coron Size 40 lilac (106-8A). This lilac matches well with the Omega Col. 850 above.

  1. This heart pattern looks good in any kind of thread, variegated or not. Mistakes are hard to notice too, unless they're huge. There is a smaller version of this pattern that is very sweet, great for bookmarks.

  2. I think this is my all time favourite motif. A brilliant design.

It looks wonderful in your threads. That middle one is unusual and very pretty.

  3. This is a fun pattern to make, and it's great for showing off variegated threads. I especially like it in a thread that's all shades of the same color.

  4. They are beautiful in every color. I don't think I've seen the smaller version that Gina mentions in her comment, but I enjoy using larger motifs as bookmarks. I just add a 'tail' to whatever part seems most logical by making some split rings, braiding some threads, adding a thin tassel, etc.

  8. I agree with Gina, this heart looks pretty in whatever thread it's done in! I did it in pastel size 10 and gave it to a friend who had just become a great-grandma for the first time. She sewed a satin pillow for the baby and attached the heart I'd tatted. It looked so nice.

  11. I have just finished tatting this in Lizbeth 80 for my new DIL-to-be! It's a lovely pattern, but it was the first time I'd tried it, and I missed one of the joins - it was much easier the second time!
I hadn't thought of turning it into a bookmark, I will have to try that. I really wanted to stitch the motif onto the wedding hanky I've made, but I don't think it would be very practical to do that, so it's going in the card as a keepsake.

  12. Oh wow, so many comments. Thank you all. This is a very pretty heart pattern. I want to put these hearts on fabric / paper. Has anyone tried using fabric glue to attach tatting? It would be easier than sewing down every picot.

  15. Add me to the list of tatters who can't' get enough of "Heart's Desire," in any color or combination. I even used this pattern to attempt to tat a fluer-de-lys inside a heart! (See photos on my blog)

I still need to make modification to fine-tune that early experiment, but it turned out pretty well.

YOUR hearts are so beautiful! Do share if you tat more. We never tire of seeing these beauties!

  16. Just an update - I did, in the end, sew the heart onto the hanky. I used some gorgeous silk sewing thread from Japan which was terribly fine, slippery to work with, but produced an absolutely perfect result. It took a long time, though, to catch all those picots!
