Christmas Trees

The top one was taken in a hotel lobby and the bottom at the entrance to a small shopping centre.

Both are pretty.

One lavishly decorated in gold baubles, the other of recycled glass bottles and tinsel.

Have a great time ringing in the new year. No partying for me, just a quiet home cooked dinner at home and a kiss from Tsuru at midnight.

Jane's Gecko

I did not tat this gecko correctly. The thread I used was too thick and it ended up quite large. I struggled to finish it with lots of mistakes.

I had printed this from Jane Eborall's pattern page sometime back and did not realize Jane had updated this pattern with a diagram. I will try again.

Wanton Noodles

The wonton noodles here taste almost like the ones I use to have when I was a child. It had the chilli version and the black no chilli version. The wonton in the soup were tiny, soft and delicious. The char siew could be much improved on though. Try it if you are at KSL City Mall in Johor Bahru.

Something else good here is the assam laksa. Made with canned sardines, the gravy is spicy and sour enough for me. Sorry, no photo. It smelled so good, I forgot to snap a photo.

Green Snail

This did not turn out as well as the first time I tatted it. There must be some mistakes. Pattern is by Inga Madsen in her book Tatted Animals. Tatted in DMC Perle 8 cotton threads Col. 94.

Angel Wings or Hearts

I saw this on Pinterest and followed the links here. I am hoping to add this to the patchwork blanket so I need not have so many tatted animals. After all these could be hearts from grandma since the fabric was leftover from the memory quilt I made for her.

Why angel wings? I made a mistake when joining the pieces and they looked like angel wings. What do you think?

Princess?

Look who is getting comfortable!

I got more fabrics for the blanket, hand washed, dried and ironed, ready to rotary cut and someone decides to sit on it.

It reminds me of the princess and the pea.

No pea here. No princess either.

Hippopotamus

Can you recognize whose pattern this is? Yes, from Jane Eborall. Thank you, Jane. This was so much fun to tat. Notice the two hippos are not exactly the same but each has its own personality. Yes, it is an excuse to cover up my mistakes.

Pig Tail with Lotus Root Soup

I love lotus root and pig tail but never cooked a soup with this combination. No harm trying. I added some groundnuts to boil in the soup.

Drinking this soup reminded of a dessert that my grandfather loved. Groundnut boiled with soyabean strips and sugar. Maybe I'll cook that next with the rest of the groundnuts.

Sea Horses

Two seahorses tatted in variegated DMC Perle 8 cotton threads. More animals for the patchwork blanket. The pattern is by Debbie Arnold. I first tatted this seahorse when i was learning to tat. It was done as one of the lessons. I like how the tail curls.

Public Transport

This is my usual means of transport - the bus and the train. I can walk to the station, but in this weather, I take the bus. Walking is good exercise, when its 20 degrees C not 32.

Three Little Piggies x2

This is a pattern by Jane Eborall. Wings are optional. In this case these 6 piggies need to use their hooves to market.

Indigo and Violet Blocks

These blocks are rather too dark. So this will definitely not be the final placement. Re-look after I have more patched up. Time to go shopping. My favourite past time is shopping for supplies. I usually get more than I need. That's not good and I need to restrain buying too many.

My Sleeping Beauty

She's in deep sleep and did not even flinch when the photo was taken. My fur ball sleeps comfortably in the easy chair. She spends a lot of the time like this.

Yellow Dog Block

This block features a tatted dog. This dog looks so naughty and cheerful. This is too uniformed. I need to get more yellow fabric to mix it up.

It is a simple dressing of lime juice, salt and pepper with chopped mint leaves and spring onions. The pomegranate jewels are pretty. Have yours before the season is over. Healthy and good for you. This particular fruit was imported from China.

First Blocks

This is what I have been up to. I thought I better get these going before the 2 pairs of twin nephews grow up. The tatting was done long ago and posted somewhere in this blog. It was for a baby quilt but now I have to make it larger as they are no longer babies.

Getting started is difficult and getting it finished is another challenge. But I think after moving the sewing table into the air-conditioned room, this project will progress slowly but surely. Above are the first two blocks, not fully sewn as I took up Jane Eborall's tip of photographing it before sewing to ensure placement is correct.

I prefer the green placement of the patchwork so I will change the blue one before sewing, or it may all change when more blocks are pieced.

Flowering Trees

The rain has come after a period of haze and dry weather. The trees are flowering again. It has been very humid but at least the trees are happy.
