Jan 2010 Giveaway Winner

TattingChic will be receiving Umi and Tsuru's January giveaway.

Thank you to all who participated and for your lovely comments. The bud fragments (pg 83) and posy (pg 93) are patterns by Mary Konior in her book titled 'Tatting with Visual Patterns'.

I read about Mary's patterns from tatters who blog and had just bought my copy in November 2009. I was on a quest to tat as many of her patterns as possible when I heard of her passing. So far I am tatting MK #11 Masquerade.

Mary Konior roses / bud fragments (MK#10)

Multi coloured roses. Tatted in variegated threads (Size 20) of all colours. A great distraction from my current WIP and TIAS. I wonder if I can remember where I put the small cross stitch frames which I bought. It would look pretty in them. These were all tatted using the Birch shuttle (similar to the Aero shuttle). I could not get use to this shuttle when I first tried it because the hook at the end of the shuttle tend to hook my threads. Last week, I tried tatting with it again and it was good. Just needed to give extra slack to the threads and turn the hook in a particular direction.

TIAS Update

The TIAS by Jane is now in its 8th Day. It looks like a bird of some sort. Day 8's tatting was a bit tricky and I am not sure whether I have this correctly joined. Will have to see what Jane says. What do you think it is? A rooster? Bird of paradise? It should be done by mid next week.

Tsuru's new favourite spot

A few weeks back, Tsuru spent a lot of time at her favourite spot on the laundry basket. Well, where is her favourite spot now? A cardboard box! What is it about these boxes and cats. It used to contain canned cat food. I emptied the cans to the shelf and left the box on the floor. Tsuru immediately made herself comfortable. As you can see, she can hardly fit in it (A4 size) but she finds it quite comfy to sleep in there for hours.

Posy MK#9

Posy is such an appropriate name. I love how this turned out. Done in Lizbeth Springtime Size 40. This is another pattern done in all rings. The next pattern I will try is Masquerade. I hope it will be done in time for the Chinese Lunar New Year which also falls on Valentine's Day this year. Enjoy this photo.

Hope MK#8

This one is called Hope on pg 92 of Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior. I used Lizbeth Jewel size 40 and I think the pattern did not show up well in these colours. It should have been done in one solid colour. Shall I do one in solid black? Because it is in size 40 threads, this motif only measures about 1.5 inches across. Mary did it in Size 20 and it was 2.25 inches across.

Spinning Wheel Glass Mat

This is MK#7. This pattern is lovely however, it is easy to make a mistake. Top is made using the GT thread in orange and below is done in Lizbeth #40 in Jewels. Again in different coloured threads the pattern appears different. Can you spot a mistake in one of them?

Quilting in progress

Okay I started machine quilting the lovers knot quilt this weekend. I have never done this before and manouvering the quilt under the arm of the sewing machine is tedious. I hope it gets easier when I get to the periphery of the quilt. I added a maroon flowery fabric as border and a light denim as backing. I now wished I bought a slightly heavier fabric as backing. It seems to be puckering as I quilt even with a walking foot.

I am just wondering if it would be possible to quilt without batting? Has anyone done this before?

TIAS

The first time I joined the TIAS (Tat it and see) was one hosted by LadyShuttleMaker. That was great fun and we tatted a lighthouse. This time I've decided to join Jane for her TIAS. This is the result from Part 1 Day 1 of the pattern. Can you guess what this is? Find out when it is done.

Curds and Whey

This was done in DMC Perle Cotton 5 in colour #413. Curds and Whey is a pattern from Mary Konior's Tatting with Visual Patterns. This would be MK6, that is pattern #6 that I have tatted from this book.

This one was made using DMC Perle Cotton 12 in colour #818. In size 12 it looks more lacy and extra long. How different the pattern looks in different sized threads.

Happy New Year 2010

I wish you all a good year ahead. May it be a blessed one.

I hope you like this tatted blue pansy.
I tatted this during one of my tatting classes back in 2006 and just found it in one of my storage tins. The leaves are done using a ring with various picots. It is then joined by crocheting a chain through all the picots. Petals are done in a similar fashion.
