Tatting Together Square Motifs - Ulla Bendtsen

This was what I was talking about yesterday. It took me 3 tries, but you learn. Tatting isn't perfect and I tied the ends to the wrong side but hopefully I will do better for the next repeat. This pattern of Ulla is from Tatting Together Square Motifs. I liked the negative space the pattern created and it looked lovely in the book - both in colour and in all white. I wanted a black and white combination. Does it look too severe? I think I am going to do some of the patterns in this book in the fashion colours of 2012 summer collection. Look out for them, soon.

  1. I did a little guessing game with myself, trying to figure out which one you were trying. I picked this one. It just looked like one that you would pick out. (Just because of how you pull your picots, and they look all elegant yet spiky)

  2. There seems to be no limit to the designs that can be tatted and effects that can be achieved! If it weren't for the internet, we never would have known about the wealth of talent out there around the world, and the clever designers who come up with ideas for using rings and chains in so many 'endless' ways! Tatting is going in so many directions now, it's difficult to keep up!

And blogging brings it all to us in such a wonderful way, thanks to bloggers such as yourself, who find these designs and books and make us aware of them, and also show us their 'research' and experiments, as you have done many times.

This is a very striking design and has lots of possibilites.

  3. That pattern gave me fits, trying to get the long chains to sit right. You've done it beautifully. It looks very striking in black and white; I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks with several motifs joined together.
