Pink and yellow spiral bookmark

This is one more spiral bookmark which I tatted from Gina's pattern. It is much brighter and cheerful than the last one here. I finished it a few weeks ago but did not block and photograph it until this weekend.

TIAS by Lady Shuttle Maker

This is my tatting for this TIAS as of today. So far, I’ve learnt a new tatting technique with this TIAS. Yes, block tatting. I’m so glad! You can learn something new everyday. It’s great! Thank you Sherry for this TIAS and thank you Jane for this great idea of TIAS. For those who are wondering what a TIAS is, its short for 'Tat it and see'. You can have a look at everyone’s interpretation of the pattern at this link. The illustration of the tatted piece is not shown and only bits of the pattern are revealed everyday by the host. Everyone who participates will tat and show what they have made on their blog or they can e-mail it to the host. It’s interesting to see what each participant has done and the colours they chose.

Jewellery I Love

I love Michal Negrin's jewellery and Pat blogged about her visit to Michal Negrin’s store. We have Michal Negrin jewellery counters in Singapore too. ST and I are fans. And of course we are fans of Jennifer Morris too. I also love Catherine Popesco’s enamel brooches but they are hard to come by and no where in Singapore have I seen her pieces. Very pretty!

One of my Michal Negrin ear clasps broke and it was sent back to Israel for repair and it came back almost as good as new. I did not have to pay for it as all her pieces have lifetime warrantees. Other pieces I have collected are below:

I won!

I won a chance to win Pat’s September birthday giveaway. I’m never so lucky. It was definitely a very pleasant surprise. Pat’s blog was probably the first blog I visited. I was attracted to it by the lovely Crazy Quilting she posted. I check her blog almost everyday and she always has such lovely pics on her blog. I especially love her vintage pics and photos of her CQ and garden. I love how she did this pic announcing the winner.

TIAS by Lady Shuttle Maker

I did not have time to do the TIAS last week and finally caught up over the weekend. I have not done block tatting before but with instructions from Jane and Sherry, it was not too difficult. I had a fun time choosing thread colours for this. I was thinking of 3 contrasting colours. Hmmm what is it going to be?

Blue Rose Beaded Peranakan Shoes

This is the beaded pair that I made for my mother. It is a little too big for her feet. She has trouble looking for shoes that fit her. Are these shoes just meant to be admired and not worn?

Tatted Dragonfly Earrings September Giveaway

These dragonflies were tatted using Manuela 20 variegated purple cotton thread with two Delica beads and 4 white iridescent dagger beads. I used a rhodium ear hook. Dragonfly measures 25mm across and earring length is approx. 3.5cm / 1.4inch. Just leave a comment by 23 September 2008, I will do a draw on 24 September 2008 and list the winner then. Do check back to find out who the winner is. You could also tat your own dragonfly from this pattern here.

A gift from Annie

Annie surprised me with this luggage tag which she made. Can you see how pretty it is. How appropriate, a Prairie fairy riding a garden snail watering roses with butterflies fluttering about. I meant to post this earlier but was a little late photographing it. Thank you so much Annie. I will use it on my hand luggage the next time I travel I love it!

Erhu

I first noticed this two-string bowed Chinese instrument in The Last Emperor’s movie soundtrack. I love the sound it makes and use to attend the Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s concerts at the Esplanade Theatre. I wish they would play more often at the Esplanade Theatre as the sound system there is much better that the Singapore Conference Hall (their main concert venue). They had an Erhu and Cello concert last month which I missed. Did you know that the Erhu is made from stretched python skin? You could listen to the different instruments at this link of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.

Old friends

I met some old friends for lunch today. It was great to talk about how old times have moved on and life has changed for the better (I hope). It was difficult to personally connect but it was still a good meeting. Too short a time but I must say that they made the effort from their busy schedule to meet up. I’m grateful for that.

The art of Li Shuang

I first saw three of her paintings at ARTSingapore 2005. It was my first visit to an art show. I walked around and found myself coming back to these paintings. I could have stood there and feasted my eyes for hours. Oh, how wonderful to own one of her paintings. The showing gallery did give me this printed card. It will have to do for now. More of her art here.

Tatted Egg Doll Challenge for the Comfort Doll Project.

I would like to offer tatted eggs to the first five people willing to make a doll using the tatting for contribution to Pat’s comfort doll project.

Are you up for this challenge? You can make the doll anyway you like, let your creativity shine. I call them my egg dolls but please give your doll a unique name.

The tatted egg is a pattern from Emma Crew. I've made two egg dolls so far, one for Pat, one for a blog giveaway. I thought I will start to make them again, with your company, I hope.

6 Sep 2008 update: Three tatted eggs still available. Thank you for the company and taking up the challenge, Singtatter and Melusine. Melusine has contributed to Pat's Comfort Doll Project but she is making another.

10 Sep 2008 update: Another one has gone to Lana. Thanks Lana, for your participation!

Peranakan beaded shoes

I did manage to learn making the beading for the slippers from a class. Of course it had to go to the cobbler. I had one made for my mom and one for myself. The one for my sister is still on the frame unfinished and the humidity and mildew has ruined it. It will have to be re-done, one day! This photo shows my pair of slippers which I have only worn once. I will have to wait to photograph my mom’s.
